3 Reasons why Kevin Owens should dethrone Cody Rhodes at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

Kevin Owens will collide with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in a title match at Saturday Night's Main Event. This would also be the most bitter contest for Rhodes, as he is highly incensed with Owens after what he did to Randy Orton.

The two previously faced off in August at the Bash in Berlin Premium Live Event, but then it was two friends fighting for a title. Now, the story has changed. It's a heel Kevin Owens vs. a revengeful Cody Rhodes, and both are out for blood.

Kevin Owens was the WWE Universal Champion once, in 2016, and his reign lasted for 188 days. Since then, The Prizefighter has yet to win the prestigious title. However, Owens must win the Undisputed title at Saturday Night's Main Event, dethroning Cody Rhodes as the champion. This article will briefly discuss three reasons why Kevin Owens should beat Rhodes on December 14, 2024.

#3. To solidify his heel turn in WWE

KO's heel turn has so far been a success, and winning the Undisputed WWE Championship would further solidify his character. A victory by a low blow to Cody Rhodes would be an apt way of winning the contest, as beating Cody Rhodes clean would be difficult for him.

Owens has turned heel several times since his debut in the company, but his current one is the best so far. He is more bitter and ruthless than he has ever been. He turned heel after attacking Cody Rhodes at Bad Blood where Cody aligned with Roman Reigns for a tag team match. Owens attacked Cody in the parking lot of the arena, turning heel for the first time since 2022.

#2. Get the WWE fans invested

KO winning the Undisputed WWE Championship after beating Cody Rhodes will send shockwaves across the wrestling industry. It would rouse the interest of fans, as Cody has been the champion for the past eight months and has defended his title at almost every PLE. While the fans might not have yet had their fill of Cody Rhodes, a title change will certainly increase their interest.

Even a short title reign for a month for Kevin Owens would make things interesting. Cody might regain the title at Royal Rumble next year, but Owens winning the title on Saturday might be good from the company's business point of view.

#1. A potential feud with Sami Zayn

er Cody Rhodes, Owens' next target might be his former ally Sami Zayn. Owens might turn on Zayn for the same reason he turned on Cody Rhodes - for allying with Roman Reigns.

Kevin Owens had come down to save Sami Zayn last year when The Bloodline outnumbered the Honorary Uce and was fighting them alone. Owens then teamed up with Zayn to beat The Usos for the Undisputed Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 39.

However, Zayn once again tied up with Roman Reigns ahead of Survivor Series: WarGames, which might have angered Owens. So, before WrestleMania 41, Owens might enter into a compelling storyline against Sami Zayn. The two might then feature in a historic match at the main event of 'Mania 41 next year.
