3 Reasons why Seth Rollins must dethrone Damian Priest at WWE Money in the Bank 2024

Damian Priest is set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins at WWE Money in the Bank 2024. The Archer of Infamy will go into his third, and arguably biggest, televised title defense hoping to cement himself against the man who established the championship's growing legacy. Given the simmering tensions in The Judgment Day, retaining could prove a tall task.

Should Priest retain and head into SummerSlam as champion, though? Should Rollins come up short in his first match back from his two-month post-WrestleMania hiatus? It might be best for all involved if The Visionary were to dethrone The Punishment in the Scotiabank Arena.

Here are three reasons why Seth Rollins must dethrone Damian Priest at WWE Money In The Bank 2024

#3: Seth Rollins should not lose his first match back from hiatus

Seth Rollins last competed in WWE at WrestleMania XL, where he had two matches despite not physically being at 100%. The Visionary then took over two months off to rehabilitate his body before making a surprise return on the June 17, 2024, episode of RAW to challenge Damian Priest. Their World Heavyweight Championship match at Money In The Bank will be his first since returning.

It could be detrimental for Rollins going forward to lose his first bout back, making his return feel anticlimactic. Given how much momentum he gained in the blockbuster build to WrestleMania, many feel it would be one step backward to hand him another loss to follow the two he suffered at The Show of Shows. Thus, Rollins must dethrone Priest in Toronto.

#2: Seth Rollins is arguably a better WWE SummerSlam opponent for Gunther than Damian Priest

Gunther, as the 2024 King of the Ring, has won the opportunity to challenge for the World Heavyweight Title at WWE SummerSlam. As such, The Ring General will most likely face whoever wins at Money In The Bank barring injury or a cash-in. This begs the question: Between Seth Rollins and Damian Priest, who would make a better opponent for the Imperium leader?

Given that The Ring General is currently a heel, Rollins would arguably be the better option since he's a babyface. Priest is still nominally a heel despite being in the process of turning to the heroic side, which could create a confusing dynamic for the fans.

The Visionary seems like the better opponent, not just for that reason, but also due to his superior star power.

#1: Seth Rollins dethroning Damian Priest sets up more storylines for WWE SummerSlam 2024

When Seth Rollins and Damian Priest were booked to a World Heavyweight Championship match at WWE Money In The Bank 2024, the duo set some high stakes. If Priest wins, Rollins will never challenge for the title while The Punishment is still champion. If the result goes the other way, The Archer of Infamy will leave Judgment Day.

Both outcomes have massive implications, but the latter seems to carry more storyline potential. After weeks of tension within Judgment Day, Finn Balor could cost his teammate the title, setting up Balor vs Priest at SummerSlam on top of Rollins vs Gunther. It would also be a poetic call-back to MITB 2023, when Priest inadvertently cost The Prince the same title against the same opponent.

All things considered, The Visionary winning in Toronto would arguably be the better storytelling direction going into The Biggest Party of the Summer.
