3 reasons The New Day should defeat Judgment Day for the World Tag Team Titles on WWE RAW
This week's episode of WWE RAW is scheduled to feature The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods taking on The Judgment Day's Finn Balor and JD McDonagh for the World Tag Team Championship. During their decade-long run, New Day had 12 Tag Team Title reigns as the fun-loving collective that preached the Power of Positivity.
Even though they are multi-time champions, The New Day hasn't won a title in over a year. Woods and Kofi haven't worn tag team gold since 2023's Vengeance Day when they lost the NXT Tag Team Titles to Gallus.
Meanwhile, Finn Balor has dominated the tag team scene, picking up two reigns as Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion alongside Damian Priest and his current reign as World Tag Team Champion alongside JD McDonagh. Considering each reign with the undisputed titles counts double, Balor became a five-time tag team champion in WWE while The New Day went titleless.
The September 16, 2024, edition of Monday Night RAW is set to be held inside Moda Center at Rose Quarter in Portland, Oregon. During the red brand's trip to the northwest region of the United States, wrestling fans could be treated to a title change.
Without further ado, let's look at three reasons why Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston should defeat The Judgment Day for the World Tag Team Title.
#3. Damian Priest gets revenge on Finn Balor by costing Judgment Day the World Tag Team Title
Finn Balor's interference and presence at ringside ultimately led to Damian Priest losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Gunther at this year's SummerSlam. Before they clash at Bad Blood, The Archer of Infamy can gain a measure of revenge against Judgment Day's Prince by costing him and McDonagh the World Tag Team Title.
The New Day is currently the number one contender for JD and Finn's titles. Kofi and Woods haven't tasted championship gold in a while, but their luck may change with the help of a vengeful Priest.
Damian could help free the titles from Judgment Day's grasp, giving the tag team division something to fight over while he and Finn engage in a highly personal rivalry in the singles division. By costing Balor and JD the tag team titles, Priest could turn up the feud's heat before his one-on-one match with The Prince at Bad Blood.
#2. Give a brighter spotlight to WWE's New Day before their much-anticipated break-up
For months, Karrion Kross has attempted to get inside the head of Xavier Woods. The Harbinger of Doom wants Woods to end his long-term partnership with Kofi and join The Final Testament. This storyline has been featured on the undercard of Monday Night RAW, never making its way to a premium live event.
If the plan is to break up Woods and Kofi, it doesn't do any service to The New Day's legacy by booking it as one of the least important storylines of the red brand. To increase the stock of both New Day members before the breakup angle, perhaps Triple H should consider giving ya boys a 13th tag team title reign.
WWE has teased tensions between Woods and Kofi in recent months, with Xavier sometimes appearing bothered by his partner's decision-making. Karrion Kross' psychological warfare seems to be playing a major role in sowing discord within The New Day. While they do appear to be on the same page leading to the title match with The Judgment Day, tensions may begin to boil over in the near future.
Kofi and Woods may have one title reign left in their tank before the team implodes. The 10th anniversary of the group's in-ring debut is coming up this November, which may be the perfect time for their break-up.
#1. WWE's World Tag Team Championship appears to be an afterthought during the title reign of Finn Balor and JD McDonagh
Balor and McDonagh defeated Awesome Truth for the World Tag Team Championship on the June 24, 2024, episode of Monday Night RAW. Since then, the duo has failed to elevate the titles, and they haven't made any visible progress in the tag team division.
Prior to the upcoming episode on September 16, they've yet to defend the titles on television. JD and Finn have successfully defended the titles against The New Day three times at untelevised house shows, defeating the legendary team twice and retaining in defeat via disqualification once.
WWE hasn't featured any men's main roster tag team title matches on a premium live event since WrestleMania XL. It's clear that the company's creative focus isn't directed anywhere near the men's tag team titles of either RAW or SmackDown. After the undisputed titles were split up and renamed as the World Tag Team Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship, they've yet to be defended at a PLE.
If crowned champions once more, The New Day would be handed the responsibility of reviving the red brand's tag straps and uplifting the tag team division. None of that sounds easy, but maybe ya boys are up for the task.
