3 reasons why WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther will lose his title on RAW
With Bad Blood in the rearview, the WWE Universe is as excited as ever about the company's future. The event was stacked from top to bottom, including an impromptu appearance from The Final Boss at the end. One thing that was missing, however, was a match featuring the World Heavyweight Champion.
Despite not being on the card, Gunther did appear at the Bad Blood PLE. During his in-ring segment with Triple H, the World Heavyweight Champion briefly interacted with WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. However, the fact that he was not booked in a match may have hinted at a potential creative change in the works for the Ring General.
Here is our list of three clear indications that Gunther will lose his World Heavyweight Championship on RAW.
#3 - Gunther is long overdue for a creative change
After carrying the NXT UK brand early in his WWE career, Gunther made his main roster debut in 2022 and immediately went after the Intercontinental Championship. He defeated Ricochet to become the new champ and went on a historic reign, eclipsing the previous record set by The Honky Tonk Man to become the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion ever at over 600 days.
Following his legendary Intercontinental title run, Gunther didn't slow down. He went on to become the King of the Ring, then culminated with his biggest win to date at SummerSlam, defeating Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Gunther has been a great asset to the company, but it's simply time for a new direction. Sometimes a star can benefit from not holding a title and just focusing on honing his skills. This could be that type of timing for Gunther.
#2 - Gunther's title reign has gone stale
As previously mentioned, Gunther's entire career has been a series of title reigns. Even before signing with WWE, The Ring General had a reputation for being a fighting champion. From his time in Germany with wXw, as well as his run as the Pro Wrestling Guerilla World Champ, Gunther has always had a title nearby.
Since winning the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, Gunther has enjoyed some great moments on RAW. With that said, his reign appears to have plateaued, so to speak. He is certainly a quality champion, but his run is currently lacking substance, spark, and direction.
Dropping the title on RAW could enable the company to pivot with the belt, possibly giving some new blood time under the spotlight.
#1 - "You're Next!" Gunther is heading towards a collision with a WWE Hall of Famer
During an episode of RAW last month, Gunther interrupted Hall of Fame icon Bret Hart to let him know that he may very well be the best there was...but he let The Hitman know he was looking at the best of today's era. Gunther went on to inform Bret that while he was, in fact, one of his childhood heroes, his true favorite was Goldberg.
As we witnessed during Bad Blood, Gunther was a part of Triple H's in-ring segment in which Trips revealed the new Crown Jewel Championship. During the segment, The Ring General turned his attention towards one of the several WWE legends in the crowd, Goldberg.
At one point, the hometown hero hopped over the barricade in an attempt to confront Gunther. However, security provided a barrier between the Hall of Famer and the champ.
While Goldberg is definitely beyond his prime, WWE is known for randomly inserting him into a quick storyline, and the company is not afraid of putting a belt around his waist. This could be a scenario that plays out on RAW.
