3 things John Cena revealed in the Mr. McMahon documentary on Netflix

The Mr. McMahon docuseries arrived on Netflix last week, setting the platform on fire as millions of users watched the six-part series eagerly. Top names like Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Bret Hart, and John Cena were interviewed.

Cena's interviews highlighted his relationship with Vince McMahon, the struggles he faced early on in his career, and also explored the development of The Ruthless Aggression Era in the aftermath of the departures of The Rock and Steve Austin.

On that note, we take a look at three things Cena revealed in the Mr.McMahon documentary, which could be particularly enlightening for casual wrestling fans.

#3. Mr. McMahon was a father figure to John Cena

Being the mastermind behind the success of WWE Superstars and the business, as a whole, Vince McMahon had close and significant relationships with many talents who worked for him.

In many cases, the employer-employee relationship grew into a father-son dynamic. The Undertaker has repeatedly stated that the former CEO of WWE was a father-like figure to him, claiming that he would take a bullet for his boss.

During the sixth episode of The Mr. McMahon documentary, the 16-time world champion revealed he had a father-son-like relationship with Vince McMahon. Cena naturally held his former boss in high regard.

McMahon entrusted Cena to carry the company upon the departures of top names like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Brock Lesnar.

#2. The Doctor of Thuganomics saved his job and career

During the fifth episode titled, "Family Business", the Mr. McMahon documentary briefly discussed The Ruthless Aggression Era. Naturally, as a pivotal component of the period, John Cena's words were important.

The Champ revealed that his initial character didn't catch fire, and the fans didn't take much interest in his work. Cena felt that he was on the verge of being fired before he struck gold on a tour bus.

The 16-time world champion heard people rapping in the back of the bus. Cena, wanting to have some fun, headed to the back, and shredded everyone. Stephanie McMahon, coincidentally, took notice of his talent and asked if he would do the same on television.

Thus, Cena began rapping on TV, becoming The Doctor of Thuganomics, a gimmick that fans thoroughly enjoyed.

#1. Before the allegations, Cena didn't believe Mr. McMahon would retire

The final episode of The Mr.McMahon documentary focused much on the scandals surrounding Vince McMahon that initially surfaced in June 2022 and his subsequent retirement from the Stamford-based company.

In a series of pre-taped interviews, McMahon suggested that he wanted to run WWE forever when asked about his retirement plans before the allegations were made public. He also appeared to have very little respect for individuals keen to retire.

Many stars, including Shawn Michaels and John Cena, corroborated McMahon's claims. Cena highlighted the former Chairman's love for the business and claimed he wouldn't stop.
