3 WWE legends Gunther can retire for good
Gunther is one of the most dominant stars of the modern era. The Ring General rarely loses; he has suffered one loss to Sami Zayn since his main roster debut in April 2022.
The World Heavyweight Champion's arrogant attitude has gotten him on the wrong side of many legends, including Randy Orton and Bret Hart. He isn't afraid to disrespect veterans from the past, claiming to be better than them while demeaning their accomplishments.
As a top star with a bright future, Gunther will likely cross paths with and retire a few legends, some of whom he has previously disrespected.
#3. Gunther could retire Goldberg; they recently almost came to blows
Goldberg attended the Bad Blood PLE with a front-row seat beside his family. The Hall of Famer received positive attention and cheers from the commentary team and the live crowd. But The Ring General, who previously told Bret Hart that Goldberg was his favorite wrestler, disrespected the legend.
The former Universal Champion had heard enough when The Austrian Anomaly brought up his family. Goldberg jumped the barricade to confront the World Heavyweight Champion, but security intervened before both men could get physical.
The WCW legend has not officially retired from in-ring competition and Triple H didn't rule out a return during the Bad Blood press conference. Therefore, he may have one last match left in him.
Given the tease at Bad Blood, Gunther is the most obvious opponent. The Ring General could be Goldberg's last opponent as he puts the Hall of Famer's storied career to bed with a dominating win.
#2. John Cena could face The Ring General in his farewell run
John Cena's retirement tour is set to begin in January 2025. While he has been rumored to face past rivals like Randy Orton and CM Punk, the WWE Universe wants to see Cena wrestle fresh superstars like Gunther.
Many veterans also believe that The Ring General would be a great opponent. After all, Cena is one World Title away from breaking Ric Flair's long-standing record. Defeating the Austrian star for the World Heavyweight Championship would accomplish that historic feat.
The Champ lives by the mantra of "Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect." Since the World Heavyweight Champion relishes disparaging legends, their contrasting characters would create a great dynamic worth exploring.
#1. Gunther could snatch the torch from Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar has not been seen on WWE television since his loss to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023. Lesnar's alleged implication in the Janet Grant lawsuit against Vince McMahon altered his status within the company, and he was written off plans.
However, if The Beast was to return to the Stamford-based promotion for one last match, Gunther should be his final opponent. The Ring General and The Conqueror are two of the hardest-hitting fighters in the industry with similar power and aura.
They had a chilling face-off in the 2023 Men's Royal Rumble match which had fans on the edge of their seats. A one-on-one clash between the two titans could set the wrestling world on fire. The most likely outcome would see Lesnar pass the torch to Gunther.
