4 best Hell in a Cell Matches in WWE history
WWE has hosted several Hell in a Cell Matches over the years, and each of them has been a violent affair. However, some of them are remembered not just for their brutality but for the stories they tell.
The Hell in a Cell stipulation was first introduced in WWE in 1997 at that year's Bad Blood: In Your House Premium Live Event. The match between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker saw The Heartbreak Kid emerging victorious.
A lot has occurred inside the unforgiving structure since then, along with changes in its physical structure. However, some matches have been more memorable than most.
In this list, we will look at the top four Hell in a Cell Matches in WWE history:
#4. The Usos vs. The New Day at WWE Hell in a Cell 2017
The Usos and The New Day have faced each other in the Stamford-based promotion several times and have always delivered exciting matches, including their HIAC Match in 2017.
At the 2017 Hell in a Cell PLE, two namesake matches took place, the other being Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens. However, it was the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match between The Usos and The New Day that stole the show. The match was a satisfying conclusion to their longtime rivalry with Jimmy and Jey Uso defeating Xavier Woods and Big E while Kofi Kingston watched at ringside.
#3. Triple H vs. Batista at WWE Vengeance 2005
Triple H and Batista share a long history as rivals and as stablemates. At the 2005 Vengeance event, the former Evolution teammates clashed for the third time during their bitter rivalry, with The Animal having previously emerged victorious at WrestleMania 21 and Backlash '05.
Both men showcased an intense and brutal match but in the end, Batista emerged victorious and not only retained the World Heavyweight Championship but also became the first person to beat Triple H inside Hell in a Cell.
#2. Triple H vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVIII
Following their magnificent encounter at The Show of Shows in 2011, The Game and The Deadman faced each other at WrestleMania XXVIII in one of the most nail-biting HIAC matches littered with twists and close calls, as well as the presence of HBK as the Special Guest Referee.
The WrestleMania 28 match, dubbed "The End of an Era," lived up to the hype as both legends and provided a satisfying end to their heated feud, with many even predicting in the lead-up that the bout would mark Taker's 'Mania streak ending. However, that did not happen as The Phenom showcased immense grit to ensure his streak remained alive as the show went off the air.
#1. The Undertaker vs. Mick Foley (Mankind) at the 1998 King of the Ring
If there is any superstar in WWE history who has become synonymous with the Hell in a Cell, it's The Undertaker, but Mick Foley is also definitely up there. In 1998, both men delivered the most memorable bout in the gimmick match's history that is remembered up to this day.
Taker and Foley pushed each other to their limits, and the match was brutal from start to finish. The match perfectly showed the demonic nature of The Deadman and Mankind's determination to withstand unbearable punishment.
