4 directions for The Judgment Day after WWE SummerSlam 2024 implosion
WWE SummerSlam 2024 was arguably the most impactful night in The Judgment Day's history. After more than two years as one of the most dominant and united heel factions in the Stamford-based promotion, the group suffered two massive cracks within hours of each other.
The opening match saw Dominik Mysterio betray Rhea Ripley and align with Liv Morgan, helping the latter remain Women's World Champion. The semi-main event then saw Finn Balor cost Damian Priest the World Heavyweight Championship, paying off more than a year's worth of tension. As the world reels from these shocking back-to-back backstabbings, what comes next for the group?
Here are four potential directions for The Judgment Day after its WWE SummerSlam 2024 implosion
#4: Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley team up to get revenge on The Judgment Day after WWE SummerSlam 2024
For a while, before they were betrayed, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley were visibly growing apart from The Judgment Day on WWE RAW. While the rest of the group was as villainous as ever, The Eradicator and Punishment grew more and more beloved by the audience.
This seemingly created a rift between them and the rest of the faction as exemplified by the fact that Priest was the only one that knew about Ripley returning on the road to SummerSlam. Now that the rift has been cast in stone, it's likely that they will band together to exact revenge on the group. Dominik Mysterio, especially, could find himself on the end of a beating from both "Terror twins" in mixed tag team action.
#3: Rhea Ripley leans on Jey Uso to fight Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan
While you can lean on your best friend to exact revenge on your ex and enemy, sometimes it's sweeter to do it alongside a new Papi. For a while, WWE has been teasing a fight for Rhea Ripley's affections between Jey Uso and Dominik Mysterio. The duo even faced off in the ring due to Main Event Jey's passes at Ripley, with Mysterio suffering defeat.
Now that Dirty Dom has betrayed his Mami, the legendary tag team champion could step in to "defend her honor," not that she needs it. As a newly-turned babyface, The Nightmare could benefit from Uso's immense popularity while also lending her own fresh coat of paint to his character. Opposite despicable heels like Mysterio and Liv Morgan, they could generate some massive reactions.
#2: Liv Morgan replaces Rhea Ripley in The Judgment Day
After Dominik Mysterio and Finn Balor's betrayals at WWE SummerSlam 2024, the audience was left with a great deal of questions. Chief among these questions was which members of The Judgment Day are staying on the heel side and which ones will side with Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest. Also on everyone's minds is the question of how Liv Morgan fits into the faction's plans going forward.
Should Balor and JD McDonagh embrace Mysterio and Morgan, the Women's World Champion could become the new Queenpin of the group. After all, the whole aim of her revenge tour was to take everything from her partner-turned-bitter rival. She took the title, got the man, and now all that's left is to take Ripley's place in the iconic heel faction.
#1: The Judgment Day disbands after WWE SummerSlam 2024
Coming out of WWE SummerSlam 2024, The Judgment Day is in utter disarray. Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley are out, Finn Balor has snapped and Dominik Mysterio is in the arms of an outsider. Meanwhile, it is unknown where Carlito and JD McDonagh stand after the events at the Cleveland Premium Live Event, given that they remained backstage for both betrayals.
Has the sun set on The Judgment Day? With Balor and McDonagh likely staying together as a tag team, will they keep Carlito around? Will The Prince welcome Dirty Dom's alliance with the Women's World Champion or will the ex-con go on a separate path? Will Ripley and Priest let them continue existing in peace or methodically dismantle the faction?
The iconic group's time may indeed be up.
