4 duos who can become the next WWE Tag Team Champions
Triple H once said that in WWE, the story never finishes; it continues. The tag team division is no exception to that.
On a recent episode of SmackDown, DIY, the fan-favorite alliance of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, finally got their much-deserved crowning moment. The duo beat A-Town Down Under to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions.
While DIY's victory was a feel-good moment, it wasn't the end of the ride. The show will go on, and sooner or later, they will drop the title to another team. Interestingly, the blue brand is home to numerous gifted groups.
So, when it comes to the next duo that will capture the WWE Tag Team Championship, there are four likely choices.
#4. The Tongans - Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa
While the Roman Reigns-led Bloodline has changed the game on multiple fronts, the one with Solo Sikoa at the helm has been a problem for the WWE SmackDown roster too. The Tongans, comprising Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa, are a big reason for that.
The seven-time IWGP Tag Team Champions are no strangers to ruling the duo's division. While their current priority is to help their leader snatch main-event gold, it's only a matter of time before the 'Firing Squad' sniffs the gold in WWE's tag division.
That said, the real-life brothers may not even wait until the end of the potential Bloodline civil war to target the WWE Tag Team Champions. Solo could very well advise them to take the duos gold to send a message to SmackDown GM Nick Aldis that The Bloodline runs the show.
Even though DIY already has a lot on their plate, they might soon have to put their straps on the line against one of NJPW's most credible teams. If that happens, fans better brace themselves for a thrilling ride.
#3. Second WWE Tag Team Triple Crown Champions, The Street Profits
One downside of having an incredibly stacked roster is that not all acts can be at the top of their respective divisions all the time. Even the most decorated stars have to take a backseat to let others shine.
The Street Profits happen to be in the same boat currently. The duo that was leading WWE's Tag Team Division up until a couple of years ago is currently looking for a strong program to sink their teeth into. Perhaps reclaiming the tag team gold is the most effective way to breathe life into this team.
After all, for the first time since Bobby Lashley was sidelined with an injury, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins showed signs of receiving a momentum boost when they defeated Pretty Deadly on the July 5, 2024, edition of SmackDown.
A few more impressive wins might put them on DIY's radar. If everything happens in their favor, The Pride duo could soon make Bobby Lashley proud by bringing some much-needed gold into their faction and fulfilling the group's original vision.
#2. Los Lotharios
Legado Del Fantasma happens to be one of the most underrated alliances on WWE SmackDown. Ever since their feud with Rey Mysterio's LWO culminated earlier this year, Legado's position on the card hasn't been a sight of joy for their fans.
But there could be a reason behind that. Up until a few weeks ago, the resident tag team of Legado Del Fantasma, Angel Garza, and Humberto hadn't signed new contracts, and the word floating around was that their current deals were set to expire before the end of the summer.
However, before it was too late, WWE was able to retain Angel Garza for the next few years. Humberto's contract status is still up in the air, but given their victory over Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews on the July 12, 2024, edition of SmackDown, it's looking like Legado will be moving forward in full force.
So, it's not far-fetched to assume that Los Lotharios' latest victory could be a sign of promising things to come for them. If that turns out to be the case, a run with the Tag Team gold shouldn't be out of the question.
#1. Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu
Yes, the current iteration of The Bloodline indeed has its staple tag team. However, sometimes the leader has to take matters into his own hands to make a more impactful statement.
Last year, Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa, disappointed by The Usos' performance, journeyed into the tag division and challenged then-Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. Unfortunately, The Tribal Chief and his Enforcer couldn't get the job done either.
Fast forward to the present day, and Solo is striving to be a better Head of the Table than Reigns. He plans on bringing the WWE Championship back into The Bloodline, something that The Big Dog hasn't been able to do due to his ongoing hiatus.
So, in his quest to one-up his former Tribal Chief, The Problem might decide to show that at Night of Champions 2023, it was Reigns who was the weak link. Solo could do so by tagging with his Enforcer, Jacob Fatu, and winning the WWE Tag Team Championship from Gargano and Ciampa.
