4 Factions involving current WWE Superstars that failed
WWE has many active factions on RAW, SmackDown, and NXT that fans follow closely. Some have been active for quite some time while others have just begun, but one thing they all have in common is they aim to succeed and have a memorable time in the company. However, that wasn't the case for some of the previous groups.
There have been many successful factions in WWE history. At the moment, there's The Judgment Day and The Bloodline, while in the past, stables like Evolution, The Shield, D-Generation X, and nWo captured the imagination of fans. Although these groups eventually broke up or became inactive, some of them found a place in the Hall of Fame.
However, there have also been some unfortunate instances when a faction didn't work out.
For this list, we will look at four factions that involved current WWE Superstars that failed.
#4. Retribution: WWE SmackDown star Michin
In August 2020, a masked group appeared on RAW and wreaked havoc. RETRIBUTION announced its arrival by lighting up a generator and then attacking the announcers. Former WWE Superstar Mustafa Ali even had an interesting and unexpected reveal as the group's leader.
Despite their dominant arrival, the stable didn't succeed, and out of its six members, only one is still with WWE today. As of this writing, Michin is still a WWE Superstar, while Dijak, Mansoor, Shane Thorne, Mustafa Ali, and Mercedes Martinez have departed the promotion.
#3. League of Nations: WWE RAW star Sheamus
The League of Nations was posed to be one of the most dominant factions in WWE at the time of its arrival in 2015. The group consisted of stars from different nations: Sheamus from Ireland, Wade Barrett from England, the erstwhile Rusev from Bulgaria, and Alberto Del Rio from Mexico.
Their main rivalry was with Roman Reigns, in which even Vince McMahon worked with them to derail the Original Tribal Chief's success. The group didn't succeed as it was mainly utilized to set up Roman as a top babyface, and it also didn't help that the members didn't get along and weren't the biggest fans of the concept either.
The faction broke up in April 2016. Alberto and the erstwhile Rusev are no longer in the Stamford-based promotion. Wade Barrett also left the company in 2016 but returned in 2020. However, he no longer performs in-ring duties and is currently a part of the RAW commentary team. Only Sheamus continues to wrestle in WWE on the red brand.
#2. The Pride: Street Profits and B-Fab
Fans were quite interested when there were hints last year that Bobby Lashley could align with the Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) on SmackDown, more so when B-Fab was added later as The Pride's manager. While the group had a strong start, which included a victory in a Philadelphia Street Fight against The Final Testament at WrestleMania XL, the stable still failed to be prominently featured on the brand.
In August this year, Bobby Lashley didn't renew his contract with the Stamford-based promotion and later debuted in AEW as part of The Hurt Syndicate. The stable was eventually disbanded. However, Street Profits and B-Fab continue to remain a part of the company. Recently, Montez Ford expressed his frustrations with his current run.
#1. The New Nexus: RAW star CM Punk
The Nexus found massive success in its initial run. Led by Wade Barrett, the group dominated the roster and later feuded with John Cena. However, the feud with The Cenation Leader is also what led to the stable's downfall. CM Punk tried to revive the group, but it didn't help.
The New Nexus consisted of CM Punk, David Otunga, Michael McGillicutty, Husky Harris, and Mason Ryan. However, the stable was eventually disbanded in August 2011. The Voice of The Voiceless left the company in 2014 but made a shocking return at Survivor Series 2023. Michael and Mason are no longer with the company. Husky, who later became known as Bray Wyatt, passed away in 2023. He was signed to the Stamford-based promotion at the time.
