4 mistakes from WrestleMania 34 that WWE will want to avoid this year

WWE decided to celebrate five years of the WWE Network by showing the entirety of last year's WrestleMania for free on YouTube. And upon looking back at the show, it still holds up as a mixed bag. There were 11 matches on the show, with one of them being impromptu, as it seemed like one of the most stacked 'Manias ever. The execution was a worthy effort, but it certainly could have been better.

WrestleMania 34 started off with an absolute bang with three amazing matches featuring the likes of Seth Rollins, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey among others. The show went into a slightly quieter period following John Cena's confrontation with The Undertaker, with Daniel Bryan's in-ring return being slightly affected by the long hours. However, the match that suffered the most on the night was AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura.

It was a victim of its own hype, as the two wrestled a methodical 20-minute match. Not what the fans wanted. After that, WrestleMania 34 fell off a cliff. The ridiculous segment with Nicholas winning the Raw Tag Team Championship followed by an extremely poor main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns ended the show on a downer.

With the opening hour and a half being as good as it was, WrestleMania 34 was a decent show. However, there were various problems. Here are four of them that WWE needs to avoid for WrestleMania 35.

#4 Too many multi-person matches

Not everyone can be on the main card.
Not everyone can be on the main card.

At WrestleMania 34, there were numerous multi-man matches for championships. Two triple threat matches along with the two battle royals on the kickoff show seemed to be a bit excessive. WrestleMania is a place where stories are told to perfection, not lumping multiple people into the same title match. This dilutes the card and takes the focus off various performers who could do with a nice WrestleMania moment. Not everybody has to be on the main card, there should be a certain amount of exclusivity to who makes it.

The main event of WrestleMania 35 will potentially be a triple threat for the Raw Women's Championship. Aside from that, WWE would be smart to limit the number of multi-person matches on the show. Perhaps a ladder match would do fine for one of the midcard titles, but it should not be a compulsion to book every single midcard talent on the show. A nice idea would be to elevate the kickoff show and possibly make the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal mean something.
