4 reasons why Drew McIntyre is the WWE Superstar of the Year 2024
Drew McIntyre sent shockwaves through the WWE Universe by knocking Sami Zayn out with a jaw-shattering Claymore on RAW. This was McIntyre's first appearance since losing to CM Punk inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood.
The Scottish Warrior's absence may have robbed him of a few weeks of in-ring action, but he had a remarkable 12 months. McIntyre was the MVP of Monday Night RAW throughout 2024 in many ways.
On that note, let's look at four reasons why Drew McIntyre is the WWE Superstar of the Year 2024.
#4. Drew McIntyre arguably had the best feud of 2024 with CM Punk
The Drew McIntyre- CM Punk saga lasted for nine months as WWE stretched the program from Punk's unfortunate injury in the Royal Rumble to the iconic Hell in a Cell match in October. However, the feud never lost steam.
Punk was entertaining as always, but McIntyre was the MVP. The Second City Saint was out of action for most of 2024, yet The Scottish Warrior carried the feud in his absence. McIntyre's social media antics and promos kept the rivalry alive while The Best in the World recovered.
Their trilogy was one for the ages, with many calling their HIAC bout the best match of 2024. The realistic touches and the personal family elements incorporated into this feud elevated the quality of the saga.
#3. The Scottish Warrior had amazing wrestling matches
Aside from his brutal war with CM Punk at Bad Blood, McIntyre had more tremendous bouts over the last twelve months. Seth "Freakin" Rollins was injured at WrestleMania XL: Night Two, but The Scottish Warrior pulled a competitive and entertaining bout out of the wounded star.
McIntyre's World Heavyweight Championship clash with Damian Priest at Clash at the Castle had insane energy as it took place in the Scottsman's home ground. Aside from the great PLE bouts, the former World Heavyweight Champion also brought his best on RAW.
Competitive matches against the likes of Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, Rollins, and Priest on RAW also showcased McIntyre's true ability in the ring.
#2. McIntyre found much success this year
Although he would have wanted more victories, Drew McIntyre had a successful year. He started strong by winning the 2024 Men's Elimination Chamber match, which included top stars from both brands.
At WrestleMania XL, McIntyre dethroned Rollins to win his first World Championship in front of a live crowd. Unfortunately, his issues with Punk led to a short reign as Damian Priest immediately cashed in the MITB contract.
A few months later, The Scottish Warrior won the MITB contract, but Punk's interference prevented him from winning the World Title again. Furthermore, McIntyre defeated The Straight Edge Superstar in the latter's first singles WWE match in over a decade at SummerSlam 2024.
While they may not have carried much weight or significance, McInytre's multiple successes in 2024 have boosted his accolades.
#1. Drew McIntyre's character work was splendid
The WWE Universe has seen many versions of Drew McIntyre. He emerged on the scene as the brash "Chosen One" only to become a comedic, lower mid-card act as a member of the 3MB.
McIntyre regained his footing as The Scottish Terminator, who let his actions do the talking. Nonetheless, none of his previous characters matched the charisma and energy he showed in 2024.
The Scottish Warrior's character felt realistic as he blurred the lines between fiction and reality, often taking matters too far with personal comments on social media. The heel tactics employed, beating Punk in his hometown or shoving beads down his throat, spoke volumes about his commitment to his villainous arc.
