4 Reasons why Lyra Valkyria should become the 2024 WWE Queen of the Ring: A star is born, an unexpected swerve & more
Lyra Valkyria punched her ticket to the 2024 WWE Queen of the Ring finals by upsetting IYO SKY on the latest RAW. With the win, she'll face Bianca Belair or Nia Jax in Saudi Arabia for the right to wear the Queen's crown.
Former champions SKY, Natalya, and Naomi have all fallen in the tournament. Valkyria's win over The Genius of the Sky puts her name on the map and shows that her earlier wins were not flukes.
The WWE Universe may not have thought the former NXT Women's Champ would be the 2024 Queen of the Ring. After beating SKY, that opinion has certainly changed. Lyra Valkyria should be the 2024 Queen of the Ring for the following four reasons.
#4. It would give her a gimmick on the main roster
Fans have taken to Valkyria since her RAW debut. Some chant along with her theme as they do for other WWE stars. Despite her fantastic in-ring work, her gimmick is hit-or-miss.
She borrows from Celtic mythology, but many fans may be unfamiliar with it. Lyra mentions the Morrigan, a Celtic goddess of war, destiny, and fertility. By making the finals of Queen of the Ring, one could argue she's fulfilling that destiny.
Wining Queen of the Ring would allow her to play up the Irish side of being the Queen. It would add to her gimmick, and she could customize the crown, cloak, and scepter, making the myth easier for the WWE Universe to understand.
#3. Lyra Valkyria winning would be unexpected
Fans may have thought Valkyria would have a chance because of her friendship with Becky Lynch. The two battled over the NXT Women's Championship. They also share a respect for their journeys in wrestling as Irish women.
When the brackets were released, each side had its favorite. For RAW, IYO SKY seemed like the favorite to win. Valkyria beat her. On SmackDown, it felt like Bianca Belair would face either Jade Cargill or Nia Jax. The EST will battle Jax on SmackDown.
Having Valkyria win the 2024 Queen of the Ring would be unexpected, especially since she was just drafted to RAW a few weeks ago.
#2. She could use the win more than Bianca Belair or Nia Jax
Both Bianca Belair and Nia Jax are former women's champions. Belair has held more singles gold over the last few years than Jax and she's one half of the current Women's Tag Team Champions.
She beat Tiffany Stratton with an injured leg after an eye poke. Her status as one of WWE's top stars isn't in question. Winning the Queen of the Ring would be piling on her accomplishments when someone else could use it more.
Despite not holding a championship for a few years, Jax has routinely been featured when on the roster. Lyra Valkyria is relatively new to main roster fans, and winning the tournament would give people a reason to take her seriously.
#1. Winning the Queen of the Ring would establish her as a new star
Most fans know that the top female stars in WWE are Becky Lynch, Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, Belair, Nia Jax, and, at the moment, Bayley. IYO SKY is also protected in matches, as she lost to Valkyria via a roll-up.
The rest of the roster usually makes up the tag team division and title challengers when needed for feuds between bigger shows. If Lyra wins the Queen of the Ring, it will put her between those two tiers of stars.
Winning the tournament isn't the same as winning a title, but it's an accolade few women have achieved. Being the second woman to wear the crown would announce Lyra Valkyria as a star to watch in 2024.
