4 Reasons why the Motor City Machine Guns will FAIL to dethrone The Bloodline as the WWE Tag Team Champions
The Motor City Machine Guns have finally arrived in WWE. They are already eyeing Tag Team titles, but Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley might not be able to defeat The Bloodline anytime soon.
After picking up a decisive victory in their SmackDown debut, The Motor City Machine Guns are now one win away from challenging Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa for the WWE Tag Team Championship. With them being hyped as big acquisitions, it's very likely that the dynamic duo will defeat DIY next week.
That said, the chances of the Motor City Machine Guns dethroning The Bloodline in the near future are very slim. There are numerous reasons for that, and here are four of those.
#4. The Bloodline has to look invincible on the Road to Survivor Series: WarGames 2024
Over the last few months, WWE has made all efforts to make the new Bloodline appear as a legitimate force in SmackDown's main event picture.
Even though Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu lost at Bad Blood, the villainous faction recovered its momentum by dishing out harsh beatdowns to Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso. Now, with barely over a month remaining until Survivor Series: WarGames, the likely destination of an anticipated OG Bloodline vs. New Bloodline match, Solo Sikoa and his stablemates can't afford to look weak in the meantime.
Thus, if the Motor City Machine Guns challenge The Tongans ahead of the late November PLE, it wouldn't be a surprise if they put over the defending Champions. After all, the heel side needs every ounce of credibility they can rack up as they prepare to square off against Roman Reigns, who isn't outnumbered.
#3. WWE could be planning to reunite The Usos to dethrone The Tongans
There's no denying that the Motor City Machine Guns would breathe new life into SmackDown's tag-team division if they get a run with the gold. But it's understandable if they have to wait for a while as there's a much bigger story at play at the moment.
It's been more than a year since The Usos last teamed up. In that time, Jey and Jimmy have come into their own as highly charismatic singles stars. So, if plans call for the YEET Master to aid Reigns against Solo Sikoa, there's no doubt he would reform his tag team with Jimmy, too.
That potential incarnation of The Usos would be bigger than ever, with both stars being insanely over with the crowds and retaining traits of their current personas. So, it would be a no-brainer for The Usos to be the duo to end Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa's reign at the top of the tag team mountain.
#2. The Motor City Machine Guns will earn fans' sympathy if they come up short after putting up a valiant fight
Despite being among the best tag teams of the modern era, the Motor City Machine Guns have only recently signed with WWE. So, it's fair to assume that a major audience would take time to get familiar with them.
That is why Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley not getting a thunderous ovation from the crowd in their SmackDown debut isn't a worrying sign. It's all but a guarantee that they'll win over the WWE Universe with their pristine in-ring style. In fact, a loss against The Tongans might help them deepen their budding connection with the fans.
Over the last couple of years, there have been numerous examples of wrestlers becoming overnight sensations due to looking phenomenal in defeat against monster heels. Sheamus at Clash at the Castle 2022 is a prime example of that. So, the Motor City Machine Guns taking The Tongans to their limit, only for victory to slip away from their hands, would make the fans root for them even more from that point onwards.
#1. Sabin and Shelley's first title win in WWE should feel like a moment of ultimate triumph after numerous setbacks
Given their legendary body of work, the Motor City Machine Guns could become the WWE Tag Team Champions, and it wouldn't seem like a rushed decision. They have been deserving of a big-time moment under the brightest of lights for a long time.
That said, their first crowning moment in the Stamford-based promotion shouldn't be looked back upon as just another title exchange. Instead, there should be proper build-up to such a defining event in their wrestling career. It goes without saying that no build-up is good enough without the main actors experiencing one setback after another before finally fulfilling their goal.
Therefore, the Motor City Machine Guns should take their fans on an absolute ride, as they aim for the top of the mountain. If the story is rich enough, they'll pick up several new fans along the way, and their eventual victory pop will be resounding!
However, for this story of struggles and triumphs to take effect, the duo must first lose to The Tongans.
