Some fans may have witnessed an interesting smirk on the face of The Viper as Cody addressed defending his title in Madison Square Garden. This has led to speculation that Orton has planted a seed for a probable turn soon.

Could we see The Legend Killer go after The American Nightmare's title? Here are four reasons why Randy Orton will be the one to dethrone Cody Rhodes.

#4. Unfinished business - settling issues from The Legacy era

In late-2008 the promotion created a faction consisting of superstars who each represented legendary wrestling families. Sim Snuka, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Manu, and Randy Orton joined forces to create a special stable called The Legacy. The group was introduced in late 2008 and officially disbanded a couple of years later. While Snuka and Manu were briefly part of the group, the stable is known for the trio of Orton, DiBiase, and Rhodes.

While the members were united, for most of the factions' existence, there were certainly times in which the foundation appeared to be unstable. Things came to a head in 2010 at WrestleMania 26 when Orton defeated DiBiase and Rhodes in a legendary Triple-Threat battle.

The dissension between the once-friends became apparent and caused a rift in their relationship. Some fans feel there was still a lot left on the table and maybe Randy can finally put things to bed with a title win over Cody.

#3. Orton vs. Rhodes Family feud is best for business

When it comes to legendary wrestling family names, very few command respect like the Rhodes. 'The American Dream' Dusty Rhodes is globally recognized as one of the all-time greats, as he created many iconic moments throughout his storied career. Thankfully for us, the fans, Dusty left behind two sons to carry on his legacy, one being Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

The Rhodes wrestling family deserves every right to be celebrated, but Randy also has a valid argument. The Ortons have a long list of accolades, dating back to Randy's grandfather, Bob Sr. The 14-time World Champion could use the lack of respect his family gets to drive him to capture the title.

#2. Loyalty - WWE rewards Orton for nearly 25 years of dedication

The year 2000 will go down in history as one of the greatest signing years in the company's history. Brock Lesnar, Batista, and John Cena were just a few of the eventual mega-stars who signed with the company in 2000. This would also be the same year that Randy Orton started his WWE journey.

Randy started his run with the then-developmental brand Ohio Valley Wrestling. He would go on to become one of the top names the company has ever had under contract. During his career, other promotions such as TNA, AEW, and NJPW have had great eras, and many stars from WWE have moved on to one or more of these companies.

Through it all, Randy Orton has remained with the TKO-led company and has proven to be one of the most loyal of all superstars. Triple H could reward Randy for his loyalty by allowing him to become the next Undisputed Champion.

After the Evolution stable fell apart, Randy Orton started a quest for superstardom that would exceed any expectations. Some feel that the catalyst for his legendary career took place at the 2004 SummerSlam pay-per-view.

In the main event, Randy defeated Chris Benoit to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. At the time, Orton was recognized as the youngest WWE Superstar ever to win a world title.

With 14 World Title reigns under his belt, Ric Flair and John Cena are the only two WWE Superstars with more than Orton, both having 16 to their credit. Randy is currently tied with Triple H and if he could squeeze out one more title run, he would stand alone at 15 reigns.

While Orton doesn't necessarily need any further accolades to validate his career, he is certainly worthy of one final reign before he hangs up his boots for good.
