4 reasons why Roman Reigns should be pinned for the first time in 1,258 days at WWE Night of Champions
Roman Reigns is set to make history at WWE Night of Champions. The Tribal Chief will hit 1,000 days as Universal Champion at the May 27th premium live event. Reigns will also have his first advertised match since WrestleMania 39 at Night of Champions 2023.
The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion will team up with Solo Sikoa against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. There’s a lot of buzz around the match for a good number of reasons.
Fans are expecting WWE to pull a huge swerve in Saudi Arabia by having Roman Reigns suffer his first pinfall loss in 1,258 days. For those unaware, Reigns hasn’t been pinned since 2019, when he lost to Baron Corbin at the December 16th TLC event.
With that being said, here are four reasons why the SmackDown Superstar should be at the receiving end of a pinfall at WWE Night of Champions.
#1. Night of Champions is the perfect stage for the big upset
The May 27th premium live event is huge for a number of reasons and Roman Reigns’ competing is one of them. The Tribal Chief will grace the Jeddah Superdome with his presence. The last time WWE were in Saudi Arabia, Reigns came out the winner in his high-octane match against Logan Paul.
WWE Night of Champions is the perfect stage to pin the Tribal Chief because of its setting in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A pinfall over Roman Reigns will add legitimacy to the tag team title reign of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn as well. It will also ensure that the tag team champions’ first ever showing in Saudi Arabia ended with the win of a lifetime.
#2. Roman Reigns will still have the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
The Tribal Chief handed Cody Rhodes a stunning loss at WrestleMania 39. He then refused to grant the American Nightmare a rematch on the RAW after WrestleMania. Reigns has been heavily protected since he turned heel and aligned himself with Paul Heyman.
A pinfall loss at WWE Night of Champions won’t hurt Reigns. He’ll still be the top champion and one of WWE’s biggest draws. What the loss will do is that it will keep him away from the tag title picture and focus on keeping The Bloodline, especially Solo Sikoa, in check.
#3. The undefeated streak is bound to come to an end
There was a time when people thought that The Undertaker’s iconic WrestleMania streak would go on forever. That didn’t happen as WWE’s resident Deadman lost to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30, creating one of the most shocking crowd reactions in the process.
Roman Reigns is currently untouchable, but even the Tribal Chief isn’t immune to the three seconds that can turn his career upside down at WWE Night of Champions. There’s no denying that he has gone without getting pinned far too long in his career and that needs to come to an end next Saturday.
#4. New hope for Jey Uso
Jey Uso is perhaps the only member of The Bloodline to be drastically affected by the mind games employed by the Tribal Chief. In all these little moments, Jey’s hatred for his cousin has only grown. A pinfall loss at WWE Night of Champions could give a new sense of hope to Jey Uso that his cousin isn’t immune to a loss.
Roman Reigns and The Usos had a heated exchange on the latest episode of SmackDown after Jimmy and Jey attacked the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. The Tribal Chief left the ring in a fit of rage only to accidentally collide with Solo Sikoa mid-way.
It remains to be seen how Triple H will book the ending to the much-anticipated match-up. While you wait for May 27, check out our predictions for the WWE Night of Champions main event here.
