4 Reasons why Solo Sikoa failed to dethrone Cody Rhodes at WWE SummerSlam 2024

WWE SummerSlam is now in the books, and the show was epic. From top to bottom, the entire card was one of the best the company has put on. It certainly stands as one of the strongest of the Triple H era.

There were numerous title changes, with LA Knight, Nia Jax, Bron Breakker, and Gunther all winning championships. One belt that didn't change hands, however, was Cody Rhodes' world title.

The American Nightmare battled Solo Sikoa in a Bloodline Rules Match. Despite interference, Cody stood tall and Solo was on the losing end of the match. Of course, Roman Reigns' return had a lot to do with the finish of the bout.

Still, some fans were certain that Solo was going to win the world title, thanks to everything seemingly being in his favor. This article will look at a handful of reasons why Sikoa failed to win the gold.

Below are four reasons why Solo Sikoa failed to dethrone Cody Rhodes at WWE SummerSlam 2024.

#4. Cody Rhodes remains a big draw in WWE

The first reason why Solo Sikoa didn't win the Undisputed WWE Title comes down to Cody Rhodes' position in the company. The American Nightmare is one of the biggest babyfaces in the company.

Not only does he get incredible reactions on RAW, SmackDown, and at premium live events, but he is also a needle mover. Cody sells tons of merchandise at WWE shows, and kids absolutely adore the world champion.

That is reason enough for Cody's victory. Solo isn't a draw like Rhodes yet, and frankly, he may never become one. Cody is on a level few can match, and Triple H may want to keep his hand hot.

#3. Solo Sikoa vs. Roman Reigns doesn't need the world title

Roman Reigns returned to WWE at SummerSlam. The Tribal Chief interrupted the main event, which was perfectly legal thanks to it being a Bloodline Rules Match. He came down to the ring and nailed Solo Sikoa with a Superman Punch and a Spear.

This had been building up for quite some time. Solo took over The Bloodline following Roman Reigns' loss at WWE WrestleMania XL. In the time since then, he has rebuilt the group in his own image and has taken shots at The Head Of The Table.

The two men are going to fight over family and over leading The Bloodline. The world title isn't necessary in their storyline. Instead, it makes more sense for the belt to remain on Cody's waist.

#2. There are a lot of intriguing feuds left for Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has been the Undisputed WWE Champion since WrestleMania XL. It was at that event where Cody managed to dethrone the-then champion Roman Reigns in a Bloodline Rules Match.

In the months since then, Rhodes has successfully retained his belt against Logan Paul, AJ Styles on two separate occasions, and now Solo Sikoa. While four major title defenses aren't bad at all, there is still so much left for Cody to do.

He likely retained the belt so he could battle other big names. For example, fans expect Rhodes and Randy Orton to feud sooner rather than later. That could be the plan following SummerSlam. The likes of Kevin Owens, Carmelo Hayes, and Andrade would be quality challengers too.

#1. The Rock is waiting for The American Nightmare

While Cody Rhodes has a lot of exciting matches ahead of him in WWE, there is one particular rivalry that is seemingly being saved for the future. That feud in question is The American Nightmare vs. The People's Champion.

The Rock returned to WWE earlier this year. He quickly turned heel and joined The Bloodline. From there, he and Cody clashed in numerous segments and then in a tag team match at WrestleMania XL. The night after 'Mania Sunday saw an in-ring segment between the two men.

In that segment, The Rock told Cody that he would be back and he would be coming for the world title. Given that teaser, it wouldn't have made a lot of sense for Solo to win the title at SummerSlam. Instead, the title must remain on Rhodes' shoulder until The Final Boss returns.
