4 Things WWE got right at Saturday Night's Main Event

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event returned to NBC last night with a stellar two-hour show that lived up to fan expectations and piqued excitement heading into RAW's debut on Netflix. The big streaming debut is set for January 6, 2025.

Five matches were scheduled for the show last night, including four all-important title showdowns. As expected, there was a fair share of surprises that added to the entertainment value.

On that note, let's look at four things WWE got right at Saturday Night's Main Event.

#4. The legends were a good addition to the show

WWE built a nostalgic retro theme surrounding Saturday Night's Main Event and announced Jesse "The Body" Ventura's return in advance. The Body kicked off the show in style and provided commentary for the main event.

Throughout the show, the camera cut to ringside to show the myriad of veterans who were in attendance. Tito Santana, "The Mouth of The South" Jimmy Hart, Greg The Hammer Valentine, and Koko B. Ware had brief appearances that enhanced the show's nostalgic appeal.

WWE should have brought back a few female legends too, but the surprises fans received were seemingly sufficient. Furthermore, Triple H was smart not to give unwarranted time or take the spotlight away from the stars in action.

#3. Drew McIntyre bagged an important win at Saturday Night's Main Event

Drew McIntyre recently returned with one goal in mind: to take down The Original Bloodline. McIntyre put Jey Uso on the injured list, and Big Jim also took a Claymore this week.

It was up to Sami Zayn to stop McIntyre's rampage. However, despite a valiant effort, Zayn failed as The Scottish Warrior nailed his rival with a devastating Claymore Kick for a much-needed win.

The two-time WWE Champion recently came off a major loss to CM Punk inside Hell in a Cell. The victory over Zayn earned him some momentum and built serious heat. McIntyre poses a legitimate threat to The OG Bloodline.

#2. Gunther earned a clean win over Finn Balor and Damian Priest

Gunther has looked a bit vulnerable in recent weeks. His World Heavyweight Championship reign was in danger with the Triple Threat stipulation. Furthermore, The Ring General had little momentum on his side.

However, Gunther legitimized and extended his world title run with a statement win over Finn Balor and Damian Priest. There were no questions as it was clean as a whistle. He Powerbombed Priest on the steel steps, dropped Balor with a T-rex Dropkick, and obliterated him with a Powerbomb for the win.

The successful defense closes his chapter with Priest and The Judgment Day. Furthermore, the dominating victory helps him build momentum towards the new year.

#1. Kevin Owens crosses the line again

Saturday Night's Main Event went off-air with Cody Rhodes celebrating a win over Kevin Owens upon landing a Cross Rhodes on top of a steel chair. However, it was the untelevised aftermath that had fans talking because KO sent the champion in an ambulance.

Owens blindsided Rhodes and delivered a painful Package Piledriver, forcing officials to stretcher him out of the arena. The former Universal Champion took the Winged Eagle title belt with him and confronted an irate Triple H on the stage.

There could be repercussions for KO, but this was an intriguing way to close Saturday Night's Main Event. Owens' issues with Rhodes are far from over. However, The American Nightmare may have to take time off to sell the Piledriver.

Therefore, oddly, Rhodes' successful defense raised more questions than anticipated, creating more problems for everyone.
