4 things WWE Money in the Bank 2024 subtly told us about SummerSlam
WWE Money in the Bank 2024 was a rollercoaster ride of a PLE, producing a mixed bag of reactions with a series of big moments. The night started off hot, with Drew McIntyre winning the men's ladder match before Sami Zayn handed Bron Breakker his first clean main roster loss. John Cena then surprised the world by announcing his impending retirement before the show kicked into another gear.
McIntyre did not wait long to cash in his contract, but CM Punk was on hand to thwart him yet again, allowing Damian Priest to retain. This was followed by arguably the bout of the night in the Women's MITB ladder match before the six-man tag team match closed out the night.
The event had many implications for the future, including some subtle hints as to how SummerSlam 2024 might go down. Here are four things WWE Money in the Bank 2024 may have subtly told us about SummerSlam
#4: Seth Rollins will likely be involved in a triple-threat match at WWE SummerSlam 2024
Seth Rollins walked into WWE Money in the Bank 2024 challenging for the biggest prize on offer, but left as something of an afterthought. The Visionary lost to Damian Priest by way of interference from Drew McIntyre and later CM Punk. Given the circumstances in which he lost, the five-time World Champion is most likely not done with all three other men involved.
Rollins had a "gentleman's agreement" with Priest to never challenge the latter for the World Heavyweight Title again if he lost. Could McIntyre and Punk's shenanigans nullify it, leading to a triple-threat world title match with Gunther at SummerSlam? Could The Architect instead be inserted into the blood feud between his two bitter rivals, making Punk vs. McIntyre a three-way?
His visual pinfall over Priest and verbal confrontation with The Second City Saint post-match hinted at either scenario.
#3: Huge clash of generations at WWE SummerSlam 2024?
Tiffany Stratton took a historic step towards the next level of her WWE career by winning the 2024 women's Money in the Bank ladder match. The Buff Barbie's night was not done, however, as she interfered in a backstage segment involving Trish Stratus to tease a future match.
The Center of the Universe doubled down on this in the post-show press conference, proclaiming herself ready to "face the GOAT." Was it just a tease? Is a match in the works? With SummerSlam less than a month away, the company could strike the iron while it's hot, using Stratus to elevate Stratton as the latter prepares to cash in her title.
It would not be surprising to see this clash of generations in Cleveland.
#2 & #1: Cody Rhodes is most likely facing Solo Sikoa, and Roman Reigns may return at WWE SummerSlam 2024... but not alone!
In the days leading up to WWE Money in the Bank 2024, the World Heavyweight Championship match was expected to be the main event. However, just hours before the show, it was reported that the six-man tag team match would, instead, go on last. This sparked rumors that a surprise return was in the works, most likely Jimmy Uso's.
This was not to be, with The Bloodline making good use of their numbers advantage to claim the victory. This result, according to fans, provided two hints for SummerSlam. First, Solo Sikoa pinned Cody Rhodes, meaning that he will most likely challenge the Undisputed WWE Champion in Cleveland.
Secondly, the elder Uso's return may have been delayed until The Biggest Party of the Summer. Why? So that he can make his comeback along with Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman to confront Sikoa as a group. With Jey Uso having failed to win the MITB contract, could he also be recruited? We'll find out on August 3rd!
