4 WWE stars from tag teams and factions that need to be pushed as singles competitors this year
WWE has a plethora of tag teams and stables. While Vince McMahon never had a true appreciation for tag team wrestling, anybody who has watched a Triple H-led brand knows that The Game feels differently.
Stables and tag teams can be great for many reasons. Struggling or green talent can have their flaws hidden in a group or team, plus it offers stars more access to precious and rare television time, even if as part of a crew and not individually.
Beyond that, stables and teams can lead to unique angles, especially if members splinter off or get kicked out of whatever union they're part of. This can then lead to talent becoming major names in their own right. Jey Uso, for example, is a great example of this. This article will examine a handful of stars who should follow in Jey's footsteps and do the same thing in 2024.
Below are four WWE stars from tag teams and factions that need to be pushed as singles competitors this year:
#4. Dominik Mysterio could branch out as an upper mid-card heel
The Judgment Day is one of the top factions in modern WWE history. Despite some injuries, the faction consists of Damian Priest, Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio, and JD McDonagh.
The injuries, however, have taken their toll on the stable. Both Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio are out of action. While Rhea will surely be back on top of the division upon her return, WWE would be wise to position Dominik in a bigger role when he's back in action.
Nobody gets the heat Dominik Mysterio does. Fans love to hate him. As a result, he would be the perfect foil for someone like Sami Zayn. Dirty Dom may not need to leave The Judgment Day, but he should start to stand on his own as a singles star this year. An Intercontinental Title win could be the way to go about it.
#3. Montez Ford has long been ready for a singles push
The Street Profits are a popular tag team in WWE consisting of Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford. The duo has had a lot of success.
Last year, Angelo and Montez joined forces with Bobby Lashley to form The Pride. B-Fab later joined and while the group tasted success at WrestleMania, they've ultimately failed to reach new heights or win titles. There is a feeling among some WWE fans that The Street Profits' best days are behind them.
Due to this, it would be wise for Montez Ford to go solo in 2024. Both the audience and insiders alike have stated that Ford has the potential to be a breakout player if he splits from his team. A heel turn and solo run from Montez could be a perfect way to rebound and set him on the right path.
#2. Grayson Waller could go solo after losing the WWE Tag Team Title
A-Town Down Under is another tag team in WWE. Like The Street Profits, the duo of Grayson Waller and Austin Theory are on the Friday Night SmackDown brand. They began uniting last year and also work alongside Logan Paul.
The duo won the SmackDown Tag Team Title (now called WWE Tag Team Championship) in the Six-Pack Ladder Match at WrestleMania XL. However, their time
Grayson has the potential to be an upper mid-card or main event-level heel. While he and Theory have chemistry, the Australian performer must break away from the team at some point this year so he can be elevated to the next level.
#1. Solo Sikoa will need to be a dominant singles star
The Bloodline has been the main focal point of WWE for the bulk of the past four years. The group has featured Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, The Rock, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Paul Heyman, Sami Zayn, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa as members at various points.
Currently, The Rock and Reigns are away from television, and Zayn, Jey, and Jimmy are no longer in the group. This leaves the core stable as Solo, Tama, and Loa with Heyman begrudgingly following their every move. This is a chance for Sikoa to break out of the pack.
Unlike the other entries on this list, Solo Sikoa's push appears to have begun. He went from The Enforcer of The Bloodline to potentially the new Tribal Chief. Still, for his push to truly work, he needs to start having more exciting and competitive matches while ultimately picking up wins.
