44-year-old WWE legend to ambush Cody Rhodes amid Roman Reigns' return? Exploring potential swerve at SummerSlam

On Saturday, August 4th, Cody Rhodes will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa. Since Roman Reigns lost his title to Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, Sikoa has taken it upon himself to become the leader of The Bloodline. During that time he violently kicked out Jimmy Uso and Paul Heyman from the group and declared himself the new Tribal Chief.

Ahead of Rhodes and Sikoa's match in Cleveland next month, Cody's old Legacy teammate Randy Orton has stated that he will have his friend's back in both the buildup to the contest as well as on the night itself.

With SummerSlam being one of the biggest premium live events of the year, many fans are expecting Roman Reigns to make his return during the main event or at least after.

If this does indeed happen then fans may be in for a shock as Reigns may surprisingly go after Sikoa as opposed to his old rival Rhodes.

With The American Nightmare seemingly no longer in The Bloodline's line of sight, this could lead to Randy Orton resorting to his old ways by attacking Cody after he defends his title, leading to a match between the two later down the line.

Cody Rhodes on Randy Orton's guidance

After becoming a part of the main roster in 2007, Cody Rhodes was struggling to make an impact. Desperate for guidance Rhodes found a mentor in the form of Randy Orton as they joined forces to create Legacy.

Speaking at the Survivor Series Post-Show Press Conference, Cody Rhodes spoke about the impact that Orton has had on his career.

"Randy is so wild, chaotic, and you hear all these funny stories about him and all this nonsense. But as a performer, professional wrestler, WWE superstar, what an outstanding mentor he was to me. Truly. I’ll never forget standing in the ring at the Royal Rumble when he won, pointing at the WrestleMania sign. [I was] just thinking, ‘I want to be like him." [H/T: Wrestle Zone]

Having made his return late last year, Randy Orton is still proving to this day that he is one of the most athletic and gifted stars on the roster.
