5 blockbuster Randy Orton retirement opponents other than Cody Rhodes in WWE - Major rival, rising star
WWE Superstars Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes have a storied history together. Both stars were a part of The Legacy faction together, and The Viper has been helping The American Nightmare during his rivalry against The Bloodline on WWE SmackDown since his comeback late last year.
Orton will be squaring off against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at Bash in Berlin on August 31. He recently sat down with Cody Rhodes on his What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast and stated that if he had to choose today, he would select Rhodes as his final opponent in WWE.
Listed below are five other blockbuster opponents for Randy Orton's final match.
#5. Gunther could end Randy Orton's WWE career down the line
Gunther and Randy Orton squared off in the final of the King of the Ring tournament earlier this year. The Ring General picked up the victory and earned a title shot at SummerSlam. He went on to defeat Damian Priest to become World Heavyweight Champion at the premium live event on August 3.
However, the match at King and Queen of the Ring had a controversial finish, thus the rematch at Bash in Berlin. Gunther could prove total dominance over Orton by defeating him once again on August 31, and then in a retirement match down the line.
#4. Kevin Owens could be Orton's final match
Kevin Owens and Randy Orton have been helping Cody Rhodes in his rivalry against the new version of The Bloodline on SmackDown. However, it was announced last Friday night that The Prizefighter will be challenging Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Bash in Berlin.
Owens and Orton could become enemies once again in the future. Orton has made it known that he wants to wrestle until he is at least fifty years old. The two stars could potentially end their careers together in a blockbuster rivalry in the years ahead.
#3. Jacob Fatu could retire Orton
Jacob Fatu debuted on the June 21 episode of SmackDown as the newest addition to The Bloodline. The former MLW star attacked Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens during his explosive debut.
The veteran and Tama Tonga are the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions on SmackDown. Triple H has referred to the 32-year-old as a "game changer" for WWE, and he could potentially be booked to defeat Randy Orton in his final match.
#2. Bron Breakker may send Orton home for good
Bron Breakker dethroned Sami Zayn of the Intercontinental Championship earlier this month at SummerSlam. He got the better of the veteran once again in a Two Out of Three Falls Match in the main event of last week's edition of RAW.
Sami Zayn referred to Breakker as the "future face of WWE" following the loss last Monday night. Breakker could be on the verge of a Hall of Fame career in the promotion, and retiring Randy Orton would be a major accomplishment for the 26-year-old.
#1. Randy Orton's last match could be against Austin Theory
Orton recently stated that Austin Theory has the potential to be a world champion in the future. Theory is currently in a tag team with Grayson Waller (A-Town Down Under) on SmackDown. The duo captured the WWE Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania XL, but dropped the titles on the July 5 edition of SmackDown.
Austin Theory is only 27-years-old and the future is bright for the former United States Champion. Theory picked up the biggest victory of his career over John Cena at WrestleMania 39 but has seemingly failed to capitalize on the momentum since then. Orton could help guide Theory to success and potentially lose to Theory in his final match for the company.
