5 female wrestlers WWE should sign after WrestleMania
WWE's current roster depth is amazing - with four brands to feature, WWE has changed its strategy to basically recruit any wrestler who makes waves on the independent scene. With RAW and SmackDown feel overcrowded nowadays, it really begs the question as to how many more NXT superstars will be accommodated on the main brands post-WrestleMania.
But that scenario is less apparent in the women's division. RAW and SmackDown combined does not have the strength to feature 30 women in the Royal Rumble match without relying on NXT stars and retired legends.
Also, with Ronda Rousey's post-WrestleMania future in doubt and how the likes of Charlotte and Alexa Bliss have been the cornerstones of the women's division for a number of years now, WWE would need more female wrestlers to spice things up again.
This list takes a look at five female wrestlers WWE should sign post-WrestleMania. Please note that wrestlers who have already had a run in the WWE main roster are not considered for this article.
#5 Su Yung
Su Yung has a unique gimmick in Impact Wrestling. 'The undead bride' might well be the closest to a Bray Wyatt character in the whole of women's wrestling right now. While Impact has used this angle for months, it might need more refinement before a larger audience.
The person behind the facepaint- Vannarah Riggs - was actually employed by WWE developmental in 2010 for a year. She then went on to appear for Shimmer and Shine and having gained more experience, this might be the best time for her to have another crack at the WWE.
Riggs is married to WWE superstar Rich Swann, who was actually released from the company in late 2017 due to a domestic violence charge.
#4 Mercedes Martinez
At 38, Mercedes Martinez might not reach the top of the WWE women's division, but she has a wealth of experience in the independent circuit. Martinez has competed in the WWE in the past, appearing in Mae Young Classic matches as well as a few episodes of NXT.
Martinez first arrived on the scene with an acclaimed match against current NXT trainer Sara Del Rey and has also had matches with the current NXT Champion Shayna Baszler. She has had a 15-year long career in various promotions, having won titles everywhere she has gone to.
She has won over 20 titles during her independent run and is currently the Champion in top promotions. While she might not get a long run on the roster if she is indeed offered a job, Martinez can probably do wonders in the Performance center alongside Del Rey.
#3 Tessa Blanchard
The daughter of wrestling legend Tully Blanchard, Tessa Blanchard has dominated the Impact Women's division for the past year. She comes across a real badass and is Impact's equivalent of Charlotte Flair. A Blanchard vs Flair feud in the WWE would be the stuff of dreams, especially considering their fathers' association in the Four Horsemen.
Tessa has also participated in the Mae Young Classic and there is a strong chance that WWE will come calling again. She is just 23 and is having great matches in the ring despite the fact that she hasn't reached her peak yet.
Tessa is currently in a program with Impact Wrestling legend Gail Kim. But her look and attitude definitely fits in well with the Women's division in the WWE and it will not be a long time before she gets a permanent developmental deal in the company.
#2 Rosemary
Holly Letkeman was born in Winnipeg, Canada, and after graduation from the Universtiy of Manitoba, worked on various filmsets. She decided to pursue professional wrestling after hearing about her childhood hero Eddie Guerrero's death.
Trained by Scott D'Amore, Letkeman wrestled in various independent promotions including BCW, Smash and Shimmer. She used a variety of ring names including 'El Tigre Diablo' but it was a stint in Impact Wrestling that gave her the most recognisable of gimmicks.
Appearing as a ghostly cheerleader named Rosemary, Letkeman created the stable 'Decay' with Abyss and Crazzy Steve. This got Rosemary over and opened avenues in other promotions, including AAA.
At AAA's premier event of 2017 - Triplemania XXV - Rosemary was involved in a controversial women's title match. The match was won by Sexy Star, who legitimately injured Rosemary with an armbar in violation of the pre-planned spot. Rosemary is back in Impact now and is feuding with the likes of Su Yung and Allie.
Being a former Impact Women's Champion, she has what it takes to be the face of the division and a feud with the likes of Nikki Cross would be a real crowdpleaser if she makes it to WWE.
#1 Taya Valkyrie
Taya Valkyrie's rise to stardom was never easy. Trained by Lance Storm, Kira Forster was let go from a WWE developmental deal before having a single match and she moved to Mexico to make ends meet.
Originally scheduled to stay in Mexico for just weeks, she made such an impact that she was offered a contract by AAA and started a six year stint in the country. She would make a lot of history there, winning the Women's title twice and holding the title for nearly 1000 days.
She would have great matches with the likes of Faby Apache and Sexy Star and would also have a stint in Lucha Underground, wrestling in mostly intergender matches. She would meet former WWE wrestler John Morrison in Lucha Underground and start a real life relationship, eventually marrying him in 2018.
The two would eventually move on to Impact wrestling where Taya would have feuds with the likes of Rosemary and Tessa Blanchard. Morrison and Valkyrie are the power couple in Impact nowadays, with the duo holding the Impact World title and Women's title respectively.
WWE has long been interested in getting Morrison back in the fold and adding Valkyrie to those plans would only benefit the women's division.
