5 possible opponentsĀ for John Cena in 2019

Who could step up to Cena next year?

This week on Raw, Vince McMahon was in his Santa Clause attire, and ready to spread happiness around the WWE Universe, and if WWE really wanted to spread happiness, they could start by making Raw a watchable show again.

Anyway, McMahon announced some huge revelations on Raw, and one of them was the news that John Cena will return to the WWE soon.

Moreover, McMahon announced that Cena is still a free agent who can rotate from Raw to SmackDown Live, so this opens up a lot of possibilities for superstars, storylines, and pay-per-views, as Cena is arguably WWE's biggest draw right now.

So who could face him when he returns?

#1 Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose's heel turn has been disappointing so far, as WWE has really destroyed the immense heat that came from his shocking heel turn on Seth Rollins. Even though Ambrose is the IC Champion, his reign doesn't feel that important, as WWE has dropped the ball on that as well.

The solution to this problem could be WWE booking a strong opponent for Ambrose, and that could be John Cena.

Cena and Ambrose had quite the rivalry in the past, but it was never fully explored, now that Ambrose is a heel, he and Cena could go at it, as Cena could be looking to capture the one title that has eluded him for so long.

#2 Lars Sullivan

Lars Sullivan is a huge prospect for WWE, as men of his size usually go far in Vince McMahon's ring. Sullivan's size is not the only thing he has going for him, as his in-ring ability and somewhat decent character work were appreciated in NXT.

The only way for WWE to get Sullivan off to the right start on Raw or SmackDown Live is to have him face-off against the biggest star in the company.

Cena vs Sullivan may not be a match many would scream for, but it is a match we all know is coming down the road, as Sullivan could be the new big guy on the roster, and who better to guide him than Cena?
