5 Possible reasons for Kevin Owens being traded to SmackDown

Kevin Owens is WWE SmackDown’s pick in exchange for Jey Uso. The Prizefighter was announced as the blue brand’s latest acquisition by new General Manager Nick Aldis tonight. KO entered the ring and immediately took Dominik Mysterio out with a stunner.

Owens’ move to SmackDown is, without a doubt, a massive boost to the main event scene of the blue brand. The former Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion is one of the most reliable stars on the roster, and his arrival can potentially lead to some great storylines and feuds.

That said, let’s discuss five possible reasons for Kevin Owens being traded to SmackDown.

#5. Separate him from Sami Zayn without turning it into a feud

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have been inseparable since the beginning of their careers. They have been partners and enemies. There’s no hyperbole in saying that their careers are intertwined. However, now, Owens is on SmackDown, and Zayn is on RAW.

WWE probably thought it was best to separate the pair by trading Owens for SmackDown instead of turning their alliance into a brutal feud. That means the pair can still show up to help each other whenever the need arises, especially against Judgment Day.

#4. Elevate the midcard division

SmacDown’s upper midcard division is currently dominated by Santos Escobar, Austin Theory, Grayson Waller, and Rey Mysterio, among others. Owens can help elevate the division if Triple H decides to keep him in the division for now.

The Prizefighter can feud with the likes of Bobby Lashley, Sheamus, Carlito, and other established veterans, helping elevate the careers of Waller, Theory, and Karrion Kross on the blue brand.

#3. Let Jey Uso thrive on RAW

Kevin Owens and Jey Uso have been on the opposing sides for most of The Bloodline saga. Jey cost Owens many matches against Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. He also took his best friend, Sami Zayn, away from him.

After several years of feuding, Owens and Zayn buried the hatchet this past Monday on RAW. The move to SmackDown for KO in exchange for Jey Uso is expected to help both men flourish on their respective shows.

#2. Kevin Owens can keep the SmackDown main event scene fresh

Kevin Owens has repeatedly proven that he belongs in the main event. The Prizefighter had a solid run as the WWE Universal Champion, cut short by Vince McMahon’s decision to put the red belt on Goldberg.

With Owens on SmackDown, the blue brand’s main event scene will get a significant boost. The 39-year-old joins AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, LA Knight, and Roman Reigns in the stacked main event line-up on the blue brand.

#1. Reignite his feud with Roman Reigns

Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns have crossed paths multiple times. Their last singles match against each other transpired at the 2023 Royal Rumble PLE. Though KO lost the match, he rekindled his friendship with Sami Zayn.

WWE teased a potential feud between Reigns and Owens on SmackDown tonight. The Tribal Chief wasn’t happy to see his old rival on the blue brand during a backstage segment with Paul Heyman, Solo Sikoa, and Jimmy Uso.
