While it was widely rumoured Jinder Mahal was set for an even lengthier championship reign than any of us expected, as we know by now, changes and ideas can come forth at any given time in the WWE for a variety of reasons. It seems the powers that be feared Mahal vs Brock Lesnar might not offer us the matchup we were all hoping for.
Enter AJ Styles. A former WWE Champion with nothing to lose at the surprise opportunity to fight for the title, who destroyed the Modern Day Maharaja's dreams of main-eventing Wrestlemania with a single Phenomenal Forearm. For the time being, at least.

Let's be honest, as improved as he was, Jinder Mahal was nowhere near as entertaining to watch as AJ Styles. Yes, they are two completely different performers, but the distance in class between them has always been obvious.
Having endured a six-month Mahal reign, the WWE Universe is entitled to have the enjoyment factor brought back to the WWE title. It's looking like WWE's decision to bank on the Modern Day Maharaja might have been in vain.
