5 reasons why CM Punk vs Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 41 is a bad idea
CM Punk teamed up with Roman Reigns last month at WWE Survivor Series to help him defeat Solo Sikoa's squad in the Men's WarGames Match. The Second City Saint agreed to team with Reigns and Co. in exchange for a favor from Paul Heyman.
A recent report revealed that the company could be planning on having CM Punk square off against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41 next year in Las Vegas, Nevada. Punk versus Reigns would be a dream match for many, but the company arguably has several better options also.
Listed below are five reasons why CM Punk versus Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41 is a bad idea:
#5. CM Punk would likely lose to Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 41
Roman Reigns has established himself as one of the most dominant WWE Superstars in the company's history. He has main-evented several WrestleManias and had a historic reign as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
Punk has never been booked in the main event of WrestleMania and has an interesting history with The Head of the Table. The veteran noted on Colt Cabana's The Art of Wrestling podcast that in 2014 he had to make Reigns look strong during a match against The Shield.
CM Punk may have to make Reigns look strong once again if they battle at WrestleMania next year and could suffer a disappointing loss in his first-ever WrestleMania main event.
#4. Fans want to see CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania
CM Punk and Seth Rollins were rumored to square off at WrestleMania XL earlier this year, but the match never came to fruition. Punk suffered torn triceps during the Men's Royal Rumble Match in January and was unable to compete on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
Punk and Rollins will be facing each other on WWE RAW's debut episode on Netflix on January 6. Many fans were hoping to see the match take place at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, but that does not appear to be in the company's plans.
#3. CM Punk has made it known that he wants to capture a World Title
CM Punk and Drew McIntyre were involved in an epic rivalry earlier this year that culminated in a Hell in a Cell Match at WWE Bad Blood. Punk picked up the victory, and McIntyre went on hiatus until his return during the December 2 edition of RAW.
The former AEW star also defeated Drew McIntyre in a Strap Match at Bash in Berlin and informed Cathy Kelley during a backstage interview following the win that he wanted to become a World Champion again. It seems unlikely that Roman Reigns would be champion heading into WWE WrestleMania 41, and a match against The Original Tribal Chief would rule out Punk challenging for the World Title.
#2. Punk doesn't deserve a WrestleMania main event yet
All Elite Wrestling fired CM Punk following an altercation with Jack Perry at AEW All In 2023. Punk returned to WWE following the Men's WarGames Match at Survivor Series later that year and got a thunderous reaction from the crowd in attendance.
The former AEW World Champion has only competed in five televised bouts since his return last year. It would be much more compelling if the 46-year-old won the Men's Royal Rumble Match or the Elimination Chamber in 2025 to earn a WrestleMania main event, rather than just being booked to headline The Show of Shows in a clash against Roman Reigns.
#1. Fans want to see The Rock battle Roman Reigns
The Rock has not been seen on WWE television since he showed up during the final moments of Bad Blood. The Great One stared at Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes following their victory over Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at the premium live event in October.
Roman Reigns and The Rock were supposed to square off at WrestleMania XL earlier this year, but those plans were changed following the "WeWantCody!" movement.
If Reigns battles Punk at WWE WrestleMania 41, that would mean that fans would have to wait even longer for the dream match between the OTC and The Final Boss to take place.
