5 Reasons Drew McIntyre should win 2024 WWE Money in the Bank - Revenge on former champion, CM Punk rivalry & more
Drew McIntyre kicked off tonight's edition of WWE RAW and boasted about his brutal attack on CM Punk this past Friday night on SmackDown. The Scottish Warrior claimed that he was quitting the company last week on the red brand, but it was a trick to catch CM Punk off guard.
McIntyre announced that he will be competing in this year's Money in the Bank Ladder match. CM Punk cost the veteran his chance to win the World Heavyweight Championship at Clash at the Castle, but McIntyre could have the last laugh by winning Money in the Bank on July 6.
Listed below are five reasons Drew McIntyre should win the Men's Money in the Bank Ladder match.
#5. Drew McIntyre deserves to be champion in WWE
Drew McIntyre battled Damian Priest at WWE Clash at the Castle in Scotland for the World Heavyweight Championship. He had The Archer of Infamy defeated after connecting with the Claymore but referee Eddie Orengo had been knocked out.
CM Punk rushed the ring in a referee's shirt but refused to count to three. Damian Priest was able to capitalize and retain the title. Clash at the Castle has been a bit of a curse for McIntyre, as Solo Sikoa cost him his opportunity to defeat Roman Reigns at the Premium Live Event in 2022.
McIntyre has deserved a lengthy title reign for some time now, and many fans would be elated to see him win the Men's Money in the Bank Ladder match.
#4. He has only held the title in front of fans for five minutes
Drew McIntyre is a two-time WWE Champion, but both of his title reigns took place during the pandemic. He defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania XL to capture the title, but his obsession with CM Punk cost him dearly. After winning the World Heavyweight Championship at 'Mania XL, McIntyre taunted Punk while the 45-year-old was on commentary.
Punk responded with an attack and Damian Priest quickly cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to become World Heavyweight Champion only a few minutes after McIntyre won the title.
McIntyre winning the Money in the Bank Ladder match would represent another opportunity to become champion for the veteran, and he could wait until the perfect time to cash in.
#3. It would make for an incredible storyline
Drew McIntyre took a bracelet from CM Punk during his attack this past Friday night on SmackDown. The bracelet has CM Punk's wife (former WWE star AJ Lee) and his dog's name (Larry) on it. McIntyre claimed during his promo tonight on WWE RAW that Punk's wife and dog will be by his side as he competes at Money in the Bank.
The veteran also suggested that he would win the Money in the Bank contract and cash in to become champion on the same night. If McIntyre holds true to his word, it would make his already compelling storyline with CM Punk even more interesting.
Punk was rumored to be challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship before his injury at Royal Rumble 2023. The former AEW star would now have to go through his biggest enemy in WWE to win the title if Drew McIntyre captures the World Heavyweight Championship at the Premium Live Event next month.
#2. Drew McIntyre could get his revenge on Gunther
Gunther put forth a dominant 666-day reign as Intercontinental Champion before he was dethroned by Sami Zayn at WWE WrestleMania XL. During his epic title reign, he got the better of Drew McIntyre on multiple occasions.
The Ring General defeated Sheamus and McIntyre in a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 39. He also defeated McIntyre in a singles match to retain the Intercontinental Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2023.
If McIntyre wins the Money in the Bank Ladder match and cashes in on the same night, he would then have the chance to get revenge on Gunther. The leader of Imperium is guaranteed a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam as a result of winning the King of the Ring tournament last month.
McIntyre could make a major statement by defeating Gunther on August 3 at SummerSlam in his first defense as World Heavyweight Champion.
#1. It would be poetic for Drew McIntyre to cash in on Damian Priest
Damian Priest has benefited from CM Punk getting involved in Drew McIntyre's business twice now. He became World Heavyweight Champion following CM Punk's attack at WWE WrestleMania XL and was able to retain over McIntyre at Clash at the Castle due to the veteran's interference as well.
Drew McIntyre could give Damian Priest a taste of his own medicine by cashing in on The Judgment Day member after winning the World Heavyweight Championship. It would be a great moment for the 39-year-old after losing title opportunities due to things beyond his control.
