5 spooky WWE stars who could return on the SmackDown before Halloween

It's the spooky season in WWE this week, with Halloween on the horizon. Keeping that in mind, the company may be looking to bring back some legendary scary superstars.

Over the years, many performers have portrayed extremely odd and sometimes frightening personas that have gone on to become iconic parts of WWE programming.

Join us as we take a look at five WWE Superstars who could make a surprise return on the SmackDown before Halloween.

The Boogeyman is arguably one of the most bizarre gimmicks WWE has ever presented on television. He was a full-time competitor in the company between 2004 and 2009.

The most memorable part of his persona saw him putting worms in his mouth and scaring his opponents with the same.

The 59-year-old last made a televised appearance in WWE on the RAW Legends night in 2021. He could show up on the Halloween edition of SmackDown and target another victim.

#4 Gangrel eyes a brooding return

Gangrel is another performer who, despite not having a hugely successful in-ring career in the company, left a great mark on the business.

As part of the vampirical faction, The Brood, Gangrel's entrance alongside Edge and Christian made them integral parts of the Attitude Era.

Given his popularity in pro wrestling, the legend would undoubtedly be a fitting addition to the spooky edition of the blue show.

The Undertaker is arguably the scariest and most intimidating superstar in WWE history. He made a career out of getting under his opponent's skin even before the bell rang, with his slow and intimidating entrance striking fear into the hearts of all who witnessed it.

The Phenom was inducted into the company's Hall of Fame last year after he officially hung up his wrestling boots. However, he has continued to make sporadic appearances on RAW and NXT.

Last week, The Phenom took to Instagram as he announced his new project that will enable fans to hear exclusive stories about his pro wrestling career. Given his great relationship with WWE, he may feature on SmackDown to promote his new business venture.

"I am really excited because I have been working on a project and it is called Six Feet Under. So what I need you to do, is tap on that link, it is going to take you to my Patreon account. And there, you are going to receive exclusive content, not only of my wrestling career, my personal life, my views on things, just a whirlwind of all things Mark Calaway. So click on that link, go over to Patreon, and check it out." (H/T TJR Wrestling)

The Hall of Famer's latest appearance on NXT received a positive response from fans. Hence, the WWE Universe would be keen to see him again on TV.

#2 Uncle Howdy returns

Over the past year, one performer who has been surrounded by mystery is Uncle Howdy. He worked alongside the late Bray Wyatt after the latter returned at Extreme Rules 2022. However, he has been away from TV since an illness sidelined Wyatt before his tragic passing.

Before Wyatt's death, he and Howdy formed an on-screen bond that saw them become the scariest act in the WWE. Ringside News recently reported that company higher-ups are considering bringing back Uncle Howdy.

"We're hearing rumors that WWE may bring Uncle Howdy back into the creative picture. We are told that Triple H "is always open to ideas from the writers, and there are always ideas regarding different talents. That being said, Triple H has not shut down hearing ideas that would bring Uncle Howdy back to television." (H/T Ringside News)

It will be interesting to see if Howdy will return on SmackDown to resume his storyline in WWE.

Besides The Undertaker, another superstar who has terrified both the fans and the wrestlers for decades is Kane.

The Devil's Favorite Demon debuted under scary circumstances as he ripped the door from the Hell in a Cell structure in 1997. Since then, he has been featured in several spooky segments and storylines.

During a recent interview with PWMania, the Hall of Famer was asked if he was open to returning to World Wrestling Entertainment for a one-off appearance.

"I’ll always leave that door open. In WWE, we never say never. I don’t know what will happen. I do some stuff here and there in the WWE. That’s a part of me and it’s something I enjoy and want to do for the rest of my life. If it’s something in the ring, I don’t know. Maybe you have to ask Kane that question." (H/T PWMania)

Considering Kane's response, he might be open to returning on SmackDown before Halloween for a memorable segment.
