5 talking points of WrestleMania 29

We’re finally done with the most anticipated event of this year, but the least hyped of all WrestleManias in history, WrestleMania 29. As the event unfolded, the WWE Universe witnessed a good show during the “showcase of the immortals”, as they witnessed history being made in front of their eyes. The 80,000+ crowd absolutely enjoyed every minute of the show, as they got to witness a classic between The Undertaker and CM Punk, and the passing of the torch match between the People’s champion The Rock, and the now WWE Champion, John Cena. And at the end of the show, Cena was standing tall with the championship firmly in his grip, as Rock finally gave Cena what he had been clamoring for years now: his respect.

Coming out of WrestleMania, there were certain things that left the fans puzzled, and other things that would leave a sour taste in their mouth. Although everyone cannot be pleased, there were some instances which will be talked about even after the show, as we move forward towards WrestleMania 30. Here are the 5 talking points coming out of WrestleMania 29:

5. Fandango

Fandango made his WWE debut last night at WrestleMania 29, and to everyone’s surprise, he managed to beat the first ever undisputed champion, Chris Jericho! The fans have already started complaining about the Fandango gimmick (although I’m not), and very few expected that he’d go over Jericho in his very first match! This puts-over Fandango hugely, and the creative better realize that. There is no going back now, and Fandango needs to be pushed right away to make a bigger impact on the WWE Universe. Will Fandango be the next Rick Rude? Or will he be the next Drew McIntyre? Only time will answer those questions.

4. Jack Swagger

Jack Swagger was involved in a good technical wrestling match against Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight championship last night at WrestleMania. Swagger has been pushed hard ever since he returned with his new gimmick, as he won the Elimination Chamber match to earn a title shot at WrestleMania. But for some reason, Del Rio retained the title. Swagger not only managed to get over the fans as a good heel in a relatively short time, but he has also dragged media attention with his and Zeb’s rant against immigrants. It will be interesting to see how WWE will push their characters as we start our journey towards WrestleMania 30.

3. Ryback

Ryback went into WrestleMania 29 as a favorite to win his match against Mark Henry. Ryback and Henry are two powerhouses, and the crowd wanted to see them mow each other down. But what happened was completely different. Not only was the match sluggish and slow, but Mark Henry gained a pinfall victory over Ryback. After his initial undefeated streak, Ryback has been losing a string of matches on PPVs, and it continued at WrestleMania 29. There will be a possible rematch between the two at Extreme Rules, but Mark Henry going over Ryback at WrestleMania was a bad call, especially if they’re counting on building a Ryback – Cena feud going into the Summer.

2. CM Punk

The most hyped match at WrestleMania delivered the goods, as CM Punk took on The Undertaker with The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak on the line. These two warhorses went all out, and provided the match of the night, and one of the best matches of the year so far. Punk made a valiant effort to end the streak, but in the end, the Dead man proved a bit too much for the Second City Saint to handle, as The Undertaker laid Punk to rest, and kept the streak intact. The end saw Taker leaving with the urn, to a standing ovation from the capacity crowd. One has to wonder, after losing the WWE title to The Rock, and then losing to Cena for an opportunity to face Rock at WrestleMania, and then losing to The Undertaker at WrestleMania, what does the future have in store for Punk? He had an amazing 2012, but ’13 hasn’t been the same. It is also being rumoured that Punk will be taking time off soon, and if it is so, how will he be written out of the storylines? All of these questions will be answered soon, but rest assured, Punk has deserved his time off from the company, as he has been the work horse and the face of the organization for a lesser part of 2 years.

1. John Cena

John Cena came out of WrestleMania 29 as the new WWE Champion, and his road to redemption finally saw an end. The Rock put Cena over, as by the end of the evening, Rock had lifted Cena’s arm, thus giving him the respect Cena has been asking for. Now that the Cena – Rock saga is over, Cena will finally move on to other feuds, and rumour has it that he’ll be facing Ryback soon. If that is the case, WWE needs to build Ryback properly. His match with The Rock angered most of the fans, and at the end of the event, most of the fans left fuming at the sight of Cena going over The Rock. How will WWE react to this? Will Cena hold the title for a long period? Or will the new challengers pose a formidable threat to the championship? Only time will answer these questions.
