With WWE WrestleMania 34 almost upon us, we are taking a look at five things you might not know about recent ‘Mania events.

In this article, we focus on WrestleMania 31 – a show best-remembered for Sting’s WWE in-ring debut and Seth Rollins’ dramatic Money In The Bank cash-in during Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns.

The event also saw Daniel Bryan win the Intercontinental title in a ladder match, while John Cena became the first man to defeat Rusev via pinfall or submission to win the United States title.

AJ Lee left WWE after WrestleMania 31

After CM Punk’s dramatic WWE exit in January 2014, it seemed only a matter of time before AJ Lee – Punk’s then-girlfriend and now his wife – would follow him out of the company.

In the end, she remained part of WWE for another 14 months, receiving “CM Punk” chants during most of her segments and matches, before it was surprisingly announced in April 2015 that she had retired.

The announcement on WWE’s official website simply stated: “AJ Lee (April Mendez) has decided to retire from in-ring competition with WWE. We wish AJ the very best.”

That means WrestleMania 31, where she teamed with Paige to defeat Nikki & Brie Bella, was her final weekend in WWE, with her last match coming a day later on Raw when she teamed with Naomi and Paige to defeat Natalya and the Bellas.
