5 times WWE was forced to make last-minute Superstar changes
The WWE Universe was rocked by the news that Kurt Angle and AJ Styles had been drafted in to replace Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt after the duo had been diagnosed with some kind of viral infection, which was believed to be mumps.
These changes have somehow been able to transform a lacklustre pay-per-view into what could well be an interesting night of wrestling action. The only bad point is the fact that The Shield's long-awaited in-ring reunion has been put on hold because of the illness.
Despite the fact that this announcement has taken over the headlines over the past 24 hours, this isn't the first time that WWE has had to make changes to an event at the last minute. These changes may have been a little less extravagant, but WWE has changed a number of pay-per-view matches at the last minute over the past few years.
#5 The Big Show — The Great American Bash 2006
The Great Khali and The Undertaker were embroiled in a personal rivalry heading into The Great American Bash back in 2006. Khali had defeated The Undertaker at Judgement Day and then challenged "the Deadman" to a match that the WWE Universe had never seen before.
The Punjabi Prison made its debut at the event, but Khali didn't follow through on his challenge. The Indian Superstar wasn't medically cleared to compete at the event, so WWE was forced to bring in The Big Show to replace him at the last minute.
This was Khali's own gimmick match so it made no sense to have someone replace him and still go through with the match. However, the Punjab native did later interfere in an attempt to thwart The Undertaker, but the Texan came out on top nevertheless.
