5 Times WWE Superstars were forced to borrow ring gear from fellow wrestlers

WWE Superstars usually ensure that they have several different options when it comes to ring gear, since many are needed when touring with the company.

It's touring that sometimes causes these stars issues since ring gear and championships have been misplaced over the years, which has forced many current and former stars to borrow gear from fellow wrestlers.

This is an issue that is still ongoing but was probably more common for superstars several years ago since luggage is believed to be much safer these days.

Ring gear being stolen has also become a recent issue within the company since there have been reports that some items have gone missing which then causes some problems when the star in question needs to head out to the ring.

The following list looks at just five times that current and former WWE Superstars were forced to borrow ring gear from fellow wrestlers.

#5. WWE Women's Tag Team Champion Rhea Ripley recently borrowed Damian Priest's trousers

Rhea Ripley was the most recent WWE Superstar who was forced to borrow ring gear as the women's tag team champion revealed that her luggage had been lost. Ripley pleaded with the WWE Universe for help finding her suitcase, which also contained the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship belt, but it wasn't found in time for her to wrestle as part of WWE's live event in El Paso, Texas.

Rather than sit this one out, Ripley asked one of her closest friends in the company, Damian Priest, to lend her some trousers. This enabled her to compete at the event.

*LOST GEAR BAG*
My MosherZ of Albuquerque I know this is a stretch but, if any of you have seen a black travel suitcase around Office Boulevard & Montaño rd please hold onto it and let me know. It has all my gear in it, including my title. Cheers!

Ripley shared a video on her Twitter page where she showed her fanbase that she was forced to borrow gear that seemed to fit her perfectly.

There's no update on whether Ripley has found her suitcase as of yet, but last night on RAW she was seen with her title belt and usual gear. This could mean that The Nightmare was either able to ship in a new costume in time for RAW or was able to track down her missing items.

#4. WWE Hall of Famer Edge once wore Trevor Murdoch's ring gear

Edge is currently part of his second stint in WWE after almost a decade on the sidelines following retirement. Edge originally left WWE in 2011 before making his return as a surprise entrant in the 2020 Royal Rumble match.

During The Rated R Superstar's first run in the company, there was a time when Edge was forced to borrow fellow WWE star Trevor Murdoch's gear in order to perform at a WWE live event.

The WWE Hall of Famer wasn't able to disguise the fact that he was wearing someone else's gear since Murdoch's name was on the back of the tights and it was quite a change from his usual full-length pants.

It was reported that Edge was forced to ask for help with his wardrobe when his luggage went missing whilst the company was on tour. Luckily, this was only a short-term solution and the former 11-time world champion wasn't forced to borrow Murdoch's gear as part of any other WWE events.

#3. Former WWE Superstar Chelsea Green borrows Peyton Royce's ring gear

Chelsea Green was released from WWE back in April as part of the company's budget cuts and has since been able to make her return to IMPACT Wrestling.

Green was relatively known when she signed with the company, but was sent to NXT where she became part of the Robert Stone brand. Back in February 2020, when she was unveiled as the show's newest recruit, fans spotted her wearing what appeared to be Peyton Royce's ring gear.

One fan tweeted the former NXT superstar to ask if this was Royce's ring gear and Green revealed that she had called up the Australian star and asked if she was able to borrow it as part of her big rebranding with Robert Stone.

Green also revealed that Royce obviously said yes and allowed her to use it on the NXT episode. This isn't the first time that female wrestlers have been spotted sharing in-ring gear in the past, especially since many women have a number of different outfits and styles.

#2. Former WWE Superstar Ruby Riott was forced to borrow kick pads from Kalisto

Ruby Riott was part of several WWE tours as part of The Riott Squad but was caught in a tough position at a live event shortly after her debut.

Riott and teammate Liv Morgan had both lost their bags ahead of the show and then tried to see if they could put an outfit together with the clothes that they had with them.

This was a great idea until Morgan lost the key to their car, which meant that the two women were forced to fashion attire from leggings and their own merchandise. As part of WWE's Story Time show on The WWE Network, Ruby Riott revealed that she was forced to borrow kick pads from Kalisto:

“We ended up having to wrestle in tennis shoes, our black leggings, Riott Squad t-shirts, and I always wear kick pads, so I had to ask Kalisto for his kick pads and I had to turn them inside out so they weren’t super bright on my legs,” Ruby revealed.

The show must go on and regardless of whether or not the star's ring gear has made it to the venue, WWE still expects them to perform.

#1. Sabu was forced to borrow ring gear from WWE star Shawn Davari

Sabu was a legendary name in wrestling circles long before he made his debut in WWE and worked on the company's ECW brand.

Sabu is a veteran and has toured with WWE on several occasions, which means that he has also been a victim of airlines losing his luggage. As part of an interview with In Your Head Wrestling Online, former WWE Superstar Shawn Davari revealed that he had to lend Sabu some gear when he lost his own:

"Brian asks if it was true Sabu borrowed his ring gear when it was lost. Shawn says yes the airlines lost them and he let Sabu borrow his gear, it happens a lot."

As noted throughout this article, wrestling gear goes missing all the time, and wrestlers are then forced to borrow gear in order to perform. Luckily Sabu had Davari who was able to lend him some wrestling gear otherwise he could have been in a tough position and may not have been able to perform.
