5 WWE couples that broke up after appearing on Total Divas
Total Divas has completed nine seasons, showcasing the lives of various WWE Superstars, especially the females. Just like everyone else, these superstars go through various ups and downs in their lives, but they have their partners by their side to support them.
While some couples are still together and have even got married, that isn't the case for all. Some couples have parted ways either on Total Divas or after they have appeared on the show.
Let's take a look at the five couples that broke up after appearing on Total Divas.
#5 Former WWE champions Nikki Bella and John Cena
Starting with the most famous breakup in Total Divas history, Nikki Bella and John Cena. The one-time IT couple in WWE was one of the show's main attractions. Unfortunately for them, their breakup also caught the same number of eyes, if not more.
Rumors suggest that John Cena and Nikki Bella started dating back in 2012 and got engaged in 2017 at WrestleMania. However, things did not last long after the engagement. The couple split a year later on Total Divas as Cena did not want to have kids in the future.
PEOPLE magazine (via Republic) managed to get some inside details on the breakup. An unnamed source claimed the break-up was mainly due to John Cena putting himself first. The report read:
"John Cena talked a really good game about having changed, about having his priorities straight, about knowing what's important, and that it was her (Nikki Bella). But as the day got closer, it was like he just went back to who he's always been — which is someone who puts himself first, always."
Nikki Bella is now engaged to Artem Chigvintsev, and rumors suggest that the couple is set to tie the knot later this year. The American TV personality and the WWE Hall of Famer have a child together, Matteo, born in July 2020.
As for John Cena, reports suggest he married Shay Shariatzadeh in a private ceremony in October 2020. WFLA posted a video of the couple taking selfies with their marriage license.
#4 Carmella and Big Cass
Carmella's recent appearances on Total Divas came alongside her current partner Corey Graves. The former SmackDown Women's Champion has appeared on the show before, though, with her then-partner, Big Cass.
She was in season six as a guest and then in season seven as Paige's reported replacement. Carmella, Alexa Bliss, and Nia Jax were added to Total Divas in 2017, with Renee Young, Eva Marie, and Paige making way.
Carmella took a big step in her life with Big Cass during her first stint on the show by buying a new house. Unfortunately for them, the relationship did not last long, and the couple split up soon after.
Reports suggest the two had a big fallout, which resulted in arguments backstage as well. It is unclear if the backstage issues took place before or after the breakup.
Carmella is still with WWE, and, as mentioned before, she is now in a relationship with WWE commentator Corey Graves. As for Big Cass, he was released by WWE in June 2018.
#3 Alexa Bliss and Murphy
Former RAW Women's Champion Alexa Bliss was on season six of Total Divas as a guest. She was then added to the main cast for season seven. Along with Carmella and Nia Jax, she replaced Renee Young, Paige, and Eva Marie on Total Divas.
Bliss was in a relationship with Buddy Murphy at that point. The couple were even engaged, but cracks were very much visible from the time they appeared on Total Divas.
Their relationship did not get much air time because of the same, and the couple broke up soon after appearing on the show. Alexa Bliss was on the main roster when she made her appearance on Total Divas while Murphy was still in NXT.
Bliss is now engaged to singer and songwriter Ryan Cabrera. The couple have been in a relationship for some time and got engaged in November 2020. Murphy's relationship status is unknown. However, he was involved in an on-screen romantic storyline with Rey Mysterio's daughter, Aalyah, before being released by WWE.
#2 Paige and Alberto Del Rio
Paige and former WWE Champion Alberto del Rio were a couple for some time and even got engaged in 2016. The former Divas Champion split with the Mexican in 2017 and eventually revealed that it was the darkest time of her life.
The couple appeared on Total Divas during their relationship, but it ended bitterly soon after. Paige even compared Del Rio to Voldermort and stated she would never repeat his name.
Paige was speaking on GAW TV when he revealed the abuse she faced from Del Rio when they were together.
"In the beginning, you're fighting back with this person. But in the end, it becomes a cycle. Eventually, something is happening to you every day. You could be trapped in a room for 6-7 hours, getting your a** beat every couple of minutes. And he's doing all these crazy things to you."
Paige has been in a happy relationship with singer Ronnie Radke for over two years. Del Rio is no longer with WWE, and all doors for his possible return are reportedly shut.
#1 JoJo Offerman and Justin Gabriel
One of the lesser-known couples on Total Divas was JoJo Offerman and Justin Gabriel. The two broke up during the very first season of the show, and it was featured. Justin Gabriel opened up about the breakup a few years later.
"I didn't want to be a part of [Total Divas] at all. They filmed some stuff, and I started talking to JoJo because I thought she was a pretty cool person. I never realized she was so young, I think she was like 18 or 19 at the time. I don't think I can do this. Like, she's 19, and I don't think this is going to work. I'm a 30-year-old man.' And he was like, 'Ok. fair enough. Then you have to break up with her on TV.' And that's the scene they played." (via Wrestling Inc.)
JoJo Offerman is now in a relationship with former WWE Champion Bray Wyatt. The couple has two children. Justin Gabriel was released by WWE back in 2015, but rumors of a possible return are always in the air.
