5 WWE couples we surprisingly never saw together on WWE TV

There are many high-profile couples in the WWE in the current climate, and with the reality era in full swing, they rarely have much choice but to acknowledge them. When the WWE relied heavily on kayfabe to the point where heel wrestlers would not travel with babyfaces, they were able to cover up relationships and pretend that they weren’t even happening.

Unfortunately for the WWE, social media has managed to ruin any chance of that. Wrestlers in love want to express that through tweets and Instagram posts, as shown when Lana and Rusev annoyed management recently by getting engaged and forcing a storyline in which Dolph Ziggler was wooing Lana to be cut short.

Most couples nowadays are paired in some form or another on WWE TV. Miz and Maryse, John Cena and Nikki Bella, Maria and Mike Kanellis just to name a few. They live together, travel together and get to spend their relationship doing the job they love.

There are some couples throughout history though, which may have been acknowledged as being together in other programmes on the WWE Network such as various documentaries and events like the Hall of Fame, that were never a part of storylines on the main WWE shows, Raw and SmackDown.

These high profile relationships could have potentially increased viewership and make the WWE a lot of money if handled correctly. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, but this article will take a look at 5 couples that we surprisingly never saw on WWE TV together.

#5 Dolph Ziggler and Nikki Bella

I
It just didn't work out...

Before Nikki Bella and John Cena became a behind the scenes power couple, Nikki Bella was dating one of the most underrated wrestlers in WWE, Dolph Ziggler.

At the time, Nikki was busy trying to make a name for herself in the women’s division, teaming with her twin sister Brie, and working as a heel.

Dolph was just starting out and looked to have a lot of potential despite not really doing much in the first two years following his singles debut in 2008.

They dated for just over two years and split up in 2010. Dolph was just coming out of an on-screen relationship with Maria and went into a romantic storyline with Vicki Guerrero. Nikki went on to be one of the most successful Divas of all time with a Divas Championship reign outlasting any other.

I can’t believe that these two were not popped into a storyline together as Dolph was in on-screen relationships as part of his storylines at the time. The chemistry might have been a bit better between these two and Dolph backed up with Twin Magic behind him might have had a little more success.

Despite a couple of World Championship reigns for Dolph, he has often floated around the mid-card with nothing much to do and no storylines to keep the crowd entertained. One has to wonder how things would have worked out had he been paired with Nikki on screen. Heck, she might never have even dated John Cena.
