5 WWE Superstars who should get their first major title shot this year
Kofi Kingston received his first shot at a major title in WWE at WrestleMania 35. He's been with the company for over eleven years but never really got a fair shake in the main event scene of either RAW or SmackDown.
The New Day member capitalized on his first-ever shot, winning the title to cap off one of the best storylines of the last decade. While it was slightly rehashed from Daniel Bryan's own ascent to the WWE Championship picture a few years ago, the retelling of the angle was just as effective the second time around.
It's an unfortunate fact of the business, but not every star will get a shot at the top prizes in their respective promotions. Not every performer necessarily deserves that shot, but more often than not, there are loads of people who have never had legitimate chances at the top titles.
The title scene in WWE has been dominated over the last three years by AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, and Roman Reigns. Wrestlers like Kingston and Bryan have had varying reigns and The Fiend is rivaling those mentioned above. But for others, it can be one shot at a title or no shot at all. Rusev had a shot at the WWE Championship and Styles during the height of Rusev Day but was unsuccessful. The same goes for Mandy Rose at Fastlane earlier this year.
On that note, here are five current stars who should get their first shot at major titles in WWE in 2020:
#5 Aleister Black
According to recent reports, Paul Heyman is very high on the prospects for Aleister Black. Black and Buddy Murphy have had two fantastic matches to showcase how good each man really is.
The Dutch Destroyer technically only has under a year on the main roster, but some stars just have it. His backroom promos might be a bit lacking, but once he hits the ring (and his opponents with the Black Mass), it's easy to see why he has Heyman giddy with joy.
Someone new has to emerge as the main event player on RAW and Black is someone that elicits a good response from the crowd. Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, and Samoa Joe are also likely to get their shots at glory some point this year, but they've had big title shots before.
Owens even had a run as Universal Champion. WWE should at least give the Dutch Destroyer a shot at the WWE Championship at some point in 2020 if they want to see a glimpse of the future.
