Wives of 6 WWE Superstars and their professions
Several WWE Superstars have had the privilege of being work colleagues with their wives. These wives are well known to the fans as they are wrestlers themselves. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch are an example.
However, the six superstars featured in this article are married to women who are not in the wrestling business and are not well known to wrestling fans. Wives of these superstars work "ordinary" jobs and have excelled in their respective fields. Some of them are also athletes.
While the six WWE Superstars listed here attract a lot of attention due to their fame, most of their wives keep a low profile. Some of them are not even present on social media, preferring to focus on their jobs and families. Without further ado, let's begin!
#6 Finn Bálor - Vero Rodríguez
Back in 2019, Finn Bálor was the first target of Bray Wyatt, who was repackaged as The Fiend. The match was set to be the co-main event of that year's SummerSlam pay-per-view. Following a spectacularly horrifying entrance, Wyatt squashed Bálor to win his first match as The Fiend. Bálor was not seen on WWE programming for some time before he returned to NXT.
The reason behind the creative writing off the first-ever Universal Champion was that he was taking a break to get married. Bálor's wife, Vero Rodríguez, is a Mexican TV host and reporter. Ahead of the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final, Bálor and Rodríguez confirmed that they had been dating for a long time on live television when Rodríguez interviewed Balor.
Vero Rodríguez graduated from Universidad Iberoamericana with a degree in communication. Kicking off her career in 2007, Vero worked as a reporter on Pumas TV, while still being a student. She joined FOX Sports Latin America in 2014, where she works presently. Rodríguez has also covered WWE events, including WrestleMania and SummerSlam from 2016 to 2019 for FOX.
#5 WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns - Galina Becker
Roman Reigns is truly the top guy in WWE today. He is the Tribal Chief, the Head of the Table, and the Undisputed Universal Champion. He has fought a long way to reach his current status with the support of his wife, Galina Becker.
In an interview with Business Insider five years ago, Reigns admitted that his wife was the reason behind his success. He also feels she does not get enough credit for getting him to where he is today:
"She’s always been there for me through the thick and thin, all our rough patches with no money. She always backed me. She never faltered, and that’s what made me solid enough to do what I do."
Becker and Reigns met at Georgia Tech and have been married for nearly seven years. The 34-year-old is an athlete like her husband, and excelled in track and field during high school and college. Becker also practiced volleyball for one season.
After graduating from college with a management degree, Becker worked as a fitness model. However, after having five children with Reigns, she chose to give priority to raising their kids. Becker has attended several WWE events alongside her husband. She also maintains a good relationship with other wrestlers.
#4 Drew McIntyre - Kaitlyn Frohnapfel
Drew McIntyre has had a ton of success in the pandemic era, including winning the WWE Championship twice. McIntyre's wife, Kaitlyn Frohnapfel, is no stranger to success herself. She excelled as a track and field player during her high school and college days. However, she did not pursue a professional career in the sport. Frohnapfel graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in medicine and currently works as a doctor.
Frohnapfel is not a fan of pro wrestling, which McIntyre finds to be a blessing:
"Kaitlyn's not the biggest wrestling fan in the world, let's say. She doesn't like it, which is great for me, because I'm so obsessed that it helps balance me out," McIntyre revealed In his book A Chosen Destiny: My Story
Although she is not a wrestling fan, Frohnapfel played a big part in McIntyre's return to WWE for a successful second run. The Scottish superstar went through a rough time right before getting released from WWE in 2014 and for a period afterward. His wife was the one who got him back on track, leading to his comeback:
"She made me realize I still wasn’t where I needed to be. I cut out all the negatives, and I started changing my body. All of a sudden, I was flooded with all these opportunities. Months after that, I was speaking with WWE," he told Sports Illustrated
In his book, McIntyre admitted that his wife changed the course of his life. He confessed that he wouldn't be the man he is today without her.
#3 WWE Superstar Randy Orton - Kim Kessler
Unlike Kaitlyn Frohnapfel, Randy Orton's wife, Kim Kessler, is a big wrestling fan. She first met The Viper at a live event in New York. As she told the story on WWE Network's Table for 3, Orton saw her as she sat among the crowd and could not take his eyes off her even while being in the ring:
"I'm standing right in the isle and he walks up to me and he is like 'What is your name because I need to know like what all this is about' and I'm like 'ahhh' I'm trying to play it so cool, I'm like 'My name is Kim', and we have been together ever since that day."
Kessler is supportive of her husband and has defended him in several situations, including his Twitter war with NXT Superstar Tommaso Ciampa last year. He also supports her in her newborn business.
Randy Orton's wife launched her clothing line, Slthr, in 2020. She has been using her husband as a model alongside herself:
"I'm doing my thing in the ring, she is doing her thing at home raising five kids. On the side, she is also the owner of her own company Slthr. And yeah, we are selling some merch man. I'll tell you what, if it's me to a tee I love it. I'm proud of her," Orton said on Broken Skull with Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Orton and Kessler have been married for nearly six years. They are raising five children, three from Kim's first marriage, one from Orton's previous marriage, and their daughter.
#2 AJ Styles - Wendy Jones
AJ Styles has achieved a lot of success in WWE, despite only joining the company late in his career. The step of joining the wrestling behemoth could have happened earlier for AJ Styles, but he turned down an offer from Vince McMahon's company for his wife's sake.
Styles is married to his high school sweetheart, Wendy Jones. While both attended college following their graduation, Styles soon dropped out to pursue a wrestling career. However, he had to pay for his wife's education. Before joining TNA, The Phenomenal One received an offer from WWE, but not for much money. He decided to turn it down.
"I am not by any means cocky, I am honored that they offered me a contract. Financially I couldn’t afford to go up there. My wife was in college and I was the sole provider. It wasn’t feasible for me to move to Cincinnati for a developmental deal when I was making nothing. God and family are more important to me. I couldn’t do it to my wife," he explained in an interview with Slam Wrestling.
Styles' wife has a bachelor’s degree in education and currently works as a school teacher. Jones' support has played a big part in AJ Styles' success. He sent her a heartfelt message via Twitter on their 19th anniversary to tell her that "he can't do this life without her."
"Ninteen years ago today I married the most incredible woman. Strong, kind, beautiful, loving, and compassionate. A mother of 4 kids and the wife of a wrestler. I can’t do this life without you babe. Happy anniversary, I love you."
The former WWE Champion and Jones have been married for 21 years and have four children.
#1 John Cena - Shay Shariatzadeh
John Cena has achieved so much in WWE and has become a legend. Although all of Cena's WWE achievements came before marrying his current wife, Shay Shariatzadeh, she still has an opportunity to see her husband make history inside the squared circle.
Cena and Shariatzadeh first met as he was filming his movie Playing With Fire in her home country, Canada. The 16-time world champion revealed that the movie will always have a special place in his heart.
"What’s truly special about this one is that, no matter what projects I’m involved in in the future, this one will always have a special meaning because I got to film a special project and meet someone special," Cena told Entertainment Tonight.
According to her LinkedIn, Shay Shariatzadeh graduated from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. She has been working at Microsoft as a Program Manager since April.
Cena married Shariatzadeh last October after dating for over a year. The couple held their wedding ceremony in Tampa, Florida, and invited family, friends, and WWE talent.
Cena recently revealed that he is planning to return to WWE in the future. Although he is achieving a lot of success in Hollywood today, The Leader of the Cenation could be looking to win his 17th world championship to break the record for most world title reigns in WWE history.
