50 Quick WrestleMania Facts and Stats you should know
WWE WrestleMania is truly one of the greatest, if not the greatest Pro-Wrestling event in the history of the business. The annual extravaganza that started in 1985 has gone on to become the most talked about and awaited WWE event. The word ‘Mania’ is quite correctly attached to the event, as the annual event sees some amazing hype and coverage months before the actual event.
WrestleMania 35 is on its way, and we are excited. Now, to increase the excitement and to provide you with some WrestleMania Rewind, we present 50 quick WrestleMania facts that you should know.
Early years
#1 Howard Finkel came up with the name ‘WrestleMania’.
While Vince McMahon conceptualized and came up with the idea of the grand show, it was WWE Hall of Famer and former announcer Howard Finkel that came with the name “WrestleMania.”
#2 WrestleMania 1 did not have a Men's WWE Championship match. It is still the only WrestleMania to not have a World/WWE/WWF Championship match for the men.
#3 WrestleMania 2 was held across 3 venues.
The venues: The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, the Rosemont Horizon (now Allstate Arena) in Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois and the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles.
#4 WrestleMania 2 happened on a Monday.
It is the only WrestleMania to not happen on a Sunday. As things happen in WWE presently, almost all of WWE’s special events happen on Sundays while Monday nights host the company’s top weekly show, RAW.
#5 Michigan was excluded from pay-per-view access to the WrestleMania 3
Quick Story: WWE wanted to make sure that all the seats of the Pontiac Silverdome were filled, so it excluded the entire state of Michigan from pay-per-view access to the event. So the only way to view the show was watching it live in the stadium.
#6 WrestleMania 4 and WrestleMania 5 were held at the Atlanta City Convention Hall, and not Trump Plaza
WWE billed “Trump Plaza” as the venue of the two events because Donald Trump was the sponsor of the events, getting the “naming rights.”
#7 Randy Savage holds the record for most WrestleMania matches in a single night: 4
Info: WrestleMania 4 hosted a one-night fourteen-man elimination tournament for the Undisputed Championship. Randy Savage, accompanied by Miss Elizabeth, defeated Butch Reed, Greg Valentine, One Man Gang, and finally Ted DiBiase to win the Championship.
#8 WrestleMania VI was the first ‘Mania outside the United States of America.
It took place at the SkyDome (Toronto, Canada)
#9 WrestleMania 9 was the first WWE event to be held outdoors.
The venue: Caesars Palace in Paradise, Nevada
