6 PR disasters WWE wants you to forget
Public Relations disasters aren’t new to the WWE. Vince McMahon’s promotion has been at the top of the sports entertainment world for decades and have been rocked by a number of PR disasters over the years.
With WWE’s current squeaky clean family image far from what it was in the 90’s and 2000’s, there are certain incidents from WWE’s past that WWE just doesn’t want fans to remember. With all the work that WWE has done over the last few years from social causes to charity to clean up their sleazy image, WWE PR department definitely doesn’t want fans to remember some of these incidents.
6: Dawn Marie released after announcing pregnancy
WWE released Dawn Marie right after she announced her pregnancy in 2005 while she was on maternity leave. Do I need to explain any more as to why this was a PR disaster?
Dawn Marie was on the fringes before her maternity leave with no real storylines, so no one would have given it a second thought if she hadn’t been pregnant at the time of her release. The reason given to her for her release was "Creative had no ideas for you" and Dawn Marie sued WWE and filed a complaint in the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
To think, WWE could have avoided all this by waiting six months before releasing her.
