6 Reasons why Seth Rollins should defeat Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title
Brock Lesnar's reign as Universal Champion has become a contentious issue among WWE fans. For every fan who believes he makes a great champion, there are others who think that his reign has been nothing more than a hindrance for the rest of the talent on the main roster.
Lesnar's reign as champion began at WrestleMania 33 and by the time the company's next PPV, Money in the Bank, rolls around, he will have broken CM Punk's 434-day record as the longest reigning champion of the modern era.
Brock Lesnar defending his title in the WWE is a rarity, and when he does turn up to defend the belt, he often defeats his opponents inside 10 minutes before disappearing once again. This booking has left the WWE in a bit of a predicament. Lesnar has defeated pretty much every legitimate challenger on the Raw roster, and fans are going to struggle to buy any of those beating him in a rematch.
The "Big Dog" is now out of the title picture, and WWE seems to have gone cold on the idea of Braun Strowman as Universal champion in recent weeks. There is still one candidate left though, Seth Rollins.
Rollins has been crawling up the card again in recent months and is an early candidate for WWE superstar of the year. Many fans have begun to speculate that the WWE may be considering booking a match between the two in the very near future, and if that is the case, then Rollins has to be the man to stop Lesnar.
While he may not seem like the obvious choice, especially given the kind of opponents Lesnar has beaten thus far, let's take a look at six reasons why Seth Rollins should be the man to end Brock Lesnar's reign.
#1 He is over with the fans
The WWE have tried and failed on several occasions to get Roman Reigns over with the crowd. His defeat at the hands of Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 was clearly supposed to elicit some sort of sympathetic reaction from the crowd, and his controversial loss at The Greatest Royal Rumble was clearly designed to make us think that Reigns was, at the very least, on the same level as Lesnar from a kayfabe perspective.
It looks as though the WWE have realised the error in their ways, however, and Reigns has now placed in an upper mid-card feud with Jinder Mahal.
This might not mean a great deal, but it could mean that the company has finally given up on the idea of Reigns being the one to dethrone Lesnar. If that is the case then they need not look any further than Rollins when it comes to the replacement of the top babyface on Monday nights.
The fans love Rollins and his recent work has highlighted that he is one of the most popular stars in the WWE. The manner in which the crowd pops when the entrance music hits, and 'burn it down' looks as though it is finally becoming a thing with the WWE.
Rollins defeating Lesnar, unlike Reigns doing so, would be a decision met with universal approval by the fans. The belt has not yet had a babyface champion, and Rollins could finally become the face of Raw that the WWE so desperately needs. Let's face it, he basically already is.
