A credible threat? - 5 reasons why Jey Uso is facing Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental title following RAW win

Jey Uso defeated three other stars in a mini-tournament on RAW to earn a shot at Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker. After beating Ilja Dragunov, Braun Strowman, and Pete Dunne, Jey has another shot to win his first singles title in WWE.

Both stars come from legendary wrestling families, something Breakker mentioned during a backstage confrontation a few weeks back. He claimed that no member of Jey's family (Anoa'i) has ever defeated someone from his family (The Steiners).

Breakker confronted Jey as RAW went off the air. This article looks at five reasons why the former multi-time Tag Team Champion is facing Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Title.

#5. It gives him something to do before the build to WarGames

WWE commentators Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett announced that Survivor Series: WarGames would take place in Vancouver later this year. Tickets go on sale Friday, but WWE wanted to promote the event on the season premiere of RAW.

Ever since Solo Sikoa took over The Bloodline, the seeds were planted for a Bloodline vs. Bloodline match at WarGames. By facing Breakker two months before WarGames, WWE can get his title shot out of the way.

Once he's finished chasing the title this time, his involvement in the Civil War can start to be teased on RAW. Another title opportunity could be earned down the road.

#4. The other competitors in the four-way are busy

Braun Strowman took Bronson Reed's spot in a qualifying match last week. The two competed in a monster match that ended when Reed hit a Tsunami with Strowman on top of a car in the parking lot.

Knowing that The Monster of All Monsters took Reed's spot meant that the Aussie would come back for revenge. Strowman advanced to the finals on the RAW season premiere. Before he could claim victory in the final, Reed reappeared to hit a Tsunami on Braun through the announce table.

Pete Dunne already has a date with Trick Williams and potentially Ethan Page, should he beat Williams. Dragunov already fought Breakker a few times this summer. Jey didn't have a built-in plan even though he has helped the Terror Twins lately.

#3. He's one of the top faces on RAW

One of the simplest reasons Jey won a shot at Bron Breakker is because he's one of the top faces on RAW. He's called "Main Event Jey Uso" for a reason as he's routinely closed the show over the last six months.

While he's extremely popular, Jey has fallen short multiple times against Damian Priest, Gunther, and other Champions during his singles run. Those losses sting, but the fans are invested due to their connection with The Yeet Master.

LA Knight went through some of the same issues on his way to winning the United States Championship. Jey's popularity should one day lead to a singles title run.

#2. The match can be re-visited should the Judgment Day interfere

While he's backed up Priest and Rhea Ripley against the Judgment Day, Jey didn't have much of a direction after Money in the Bank. Since he missed out on a spot at SummerSlam, WWE needed to push him after that PLE.

Reed cost Strowman his shot to claim a title shot. Since he's backed up the Terror Twins against the Judgment Day, Finn Balor's group could cost Jey when he faces Bron Breakker.

It's too soon for the former NXT Champion to lose the belt, but Jey Uso would be the best choice to beat him. If he loses via outside interference, he'd have grounds for an eventual rematch with Breakker. The pairing could then be revisited on the Road to WrestleMania 41.

#1. Jey Uso could believably dethrone Bron Breakker

Picking the right opponent for a champion is extremely important. If Akira Tozawa challenges Gunther for the World Heavyweight title, his chances of winning are nearly non-existent.

While the Unholy Union are former Women's Tag Team Champions, it's hard to think they had much of a chance against Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. That's exactly what happened in their match on RAW.

Jey Uso has built up a profile as a singles star. Due to his standing in WWE and his overwhelming popularity, he could believably dethrone Breakker. The timing isn't right but he still has the credibility as a challenger that some others on the roster lack.
