A heated Civil War? 5 Blockbuster matches WWE fans might get to see in 2024
WWE is constantly building toward huge matches at big shows. The company tries harder to book the biggest possible blockbusters for shows like SummerSlam and WrestleMania.
The Rock's return at the beginning of 2024 threw a wrench into the second meeting between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns. Luckily, the match stayed on track, with the Rock's involvement adding to the angle when Reigns didn't show up.
The year is half over, but fans can see several huge matches before they end. The Rock, however, probably won't be involved in any since he only comes back for shows like WrestleMania. WWE could book the next five blockbuster matches in the second half of 2024.
#5. Jade Cargill vs. Bianca Belair is a big money match
It's only a matter of time before Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair betray each other. They're very similar in being super faces and among the strongest women in wrestling.
Their short run as WWE Women's Tag Team Champs was shocking, but it was hopefully done to fast-track a blockbuster match between the two. The EST needs more time out of the title picture, and facing The Storm would help all parties involved.
The best angles stem from one friend betraying another. Belair is long overdue for a heel turn, and if not, Cargill's attitude is better suited to being an arrogant heel.
#4. Joe Hendry returns to NXT to face Trick Williams
Joe Hendry was a surprise entrant in a #1 Contender's Battle Royal to determine the challenger for Trick Williams at Heatwave. He was disappointingly eliminated right after the bell rang.
After his elimination, he stormed by Shawn Michaels and said that he could pop up at any time and place as long as people "Say his name." Since he's the biggest possible star from TNA that could show up again in NXT, he needs to face the top guy of the brand.
Trick Williams may not retain his title at Heatwave due to defending against three other men. He could also overcome the odds and beat Ethan Page, Shawn Spears, and Je'Von Evans. Whatever happens, a match with Joe Hendry should be on the cards for two of wrestling's most popular stars.
#3. Cody Rhodes needs revenge against Jacob Fatu
Few WWE debuts were as monumental as Jacob Fatu's. While it was expected for a number of weeks, how he appeared indeed announced him as a serious threat.
Not only did he easily take out Randy Orton and Kevin Owens, but he also decimated Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Putting the current face of the WWE through the announce table is a huge statement.
While Solo Sikoa ordered Fatu to do his bidding, Fatu still flashed the moves and shocked the fans. The American Nightmare will want to get his hands on The Samoan Werewolf sometime in 2024.
#2. CM Punk and Drew McIntyre have been trolling each other for months
What started at last year's WarGames event has continued into the early months of the summer. Drew McIntyre inadvertently injured Punk in the 2024 Royal Rumble but later took credit for it to further the feud.
Punk has popped up on programming occasionally, costing McIntyre a Championship on a few occasions. Those actions have pushed The Scottish Warrior over the edge, so much so that he brutally attacked Punk in Chicago last month.
The showdown would be a tremendous non-title affair for WrestleMania. However, WWE fans may not have to wait until next year to see McIntyre and Punk get their hands on each other. Due to the heated nature of the feud, it should be a three-match angle, at the very least.
#1. The WWE Universe wants to see Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa
Seeds for a future feud between Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa were planted throughout Reigns' run as the Undisputed WWE Champion. Reigns dubbed Sikoa the "Tribal Heir," meaning he would take over as Tribal Chief one day.
The Head of the Table lost at WrestleMania 40 and hasn't been seen since that loss. Sikoa took over leadership of the group and has run roughshod over SmackDown.
He's battered Jimmy Uso, Kevin Owens, Cody Rhodes, and most recently, Paul Heyman. After bludgeoning The Wiseman, Reigns cannot be happy. Before attacking Heyman, the fans already chanted "We Want Roman" every time Sikoa showed up.
The family clash will happen sometime in the second half of 2024. It's just a matter of when Reigns decides to come back.
