A look into 'Three stages of hell' matches of the past
John Cena challenged Ryback to a ‘three stages of hell’ match on RAW this week. The three stages for these matches mentioned by Cena are 1. Lumberjack match. 2. Tables match and 3. Ambulance match. Ryback accepted the challenge. Since we are going to witness this match in a few weeks, let us look into the other three stages of hell match that took place previously in the WWE.
Three stages of hell is a stipulation where two wrestlers will take on each other in a match that has three stipulations. The wrestler who wins two out of the three stipulations emerges victorious.
There are only three ‘Three stages of hell’ matches that have taken place till date and Triple H has been a part of all the three matches.
The first match happened in the 2001 “No Way Out” PPV between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H. The three stipulations of the match were 1. A traditional singles match. 2. Street Fight. 3. Steel Cage.
The second match was between Shawn Michaels and Triple H in Armageddon 2002. The three stipulations of the match were 1. Street fight. 2. Steel Cage. 3. Ladder Match.
The third match was between Triple H and Randy Orton in The Bash, 2009. The three stipulations of the match were 1. A traditional singles match. 2. Falls Count Anywhere match. 3. Stretcher match.
