AEW News: AEW changes the name of the battle royale at Double or Nothing and reveals new rules
What's the story?
According to WrestlingInc, AEW announced on Twitter that the Over Budget Battle Royale has been renamed and will now go by Casino Battle Royale.
They have also revealed the rules for the Battle Royale.
In case you didn't know
When Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks had All In, they had the Over Budget Battle Royale which featured wrestlers from Impact Wrestling, ROH, Lucha Underground as well as other independent wrestlers.
It was on the pre-show and it come off as a fun event filled with high spots, nostaglia and unexpected surprises. The Battle Royale had a traditional setting with all the wrestlers gathered around the ring and they entered at the same time. This is unlike the WWE Royal Rumble, where in the current setup, every participant gets entrance music as they make their way out to the ring.
The heart of the matter
AEW announced on Twitter that their Battle Royal is now called the Casino Battle Royal and revealed the rules for the event.
- Total of 21 competitors will compete
- Starts with 5 men
- Every 3 minutes, a new wave of 5 men will enter
- Lucky 21 will enter last
- Battle Royale entry numbers picked at a later date
So far, eleven men have been announced for the event. This includes the likes of Chuck Taylor, Joey Janela, Trent Baretta, MJF, Brian Pillman Jr., Sonny Kiss, Ace Romero, Sunny Daze, Brandon Cutler, Kip Sabian and Glacier.
What's next?
It's interesting that AEW is trying to do something different. The Battle Royale is meant to be exciting and by changing the name and rules to have a Vegas feel, may be the right way forward.
What has not been revealed is what the winner gets if they win the Battle Royale? Do they become the number 1 contender for the AEW Championship? I guess we will have to tune into AEW Double or Nothing to find out.
