After The New Day, another former WWE Tag Team Champions to split up on SmackDown? Speculating possible move
WWE SmackDown this week might witness a popular tag-team division splitting up. They are the former tag team champions DIY, comprising Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano. The duo's relationship has been rocky for the past few weeks, with Ciampa exhibiting heel traits towards Gargano.
They lost their tag team titles to the new Bloodline on the August 2 edition of SmackDown, and since then have not been able to win back the titles. The duo have seemingly been eclipsed further in the past few weeks when the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) made their WWE debuts and won the tag team titles from the Bloodline within no time.
Ciampa has been showing his frustration against his partner Gargano for not going after the tag team championships and having a soft corner for the MCMG. The two-time NXT Champion caused an outside interference in a major title match between MCMG and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) on the November 15 edition of SmackDown.
When Gargano tried to pacify Ciampa, he was pushed back by the 39-year-old superstar. On last week's SmackDown episode, Ciampa once again shoved his partner for not being serious about winning the WWE Tag Team Titles. He gave him an ultimatum of a week, saying if Gargano doesn't fix his stuff within one week, he will have his way.
On this week's SmackDown episode, Ciampa might further berate Gargano and this might lead to the two getting into a scuffle. Ciampa might attack his partner subsequently, officially ending DIY's run in the company.
Johnny Gargano opens up on splitting up DIY and feuding with Tommaso Ciampa in WWE
Gargano was recently asked about his equation with Tommaso Ciampa and if everything was fine with DIY in WWE. He replied that it was a common question asked of him these days, but all was well between him and his partner.
He, however, did not negate the possibility of both of them feuding with each other in the future, or if they will be pursuing a singles run in the Stamford-based promotion.
"But I will say we are incredibly excited about the tag team division, incredibly excited about what the future holds for that, incredibly excited about what the future holds for DIY, and I will always say you never know what can happen in the future. Obviously, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, together or against each other, people want to see it, which is a good thing," Gargano said while speaking in an interview with Gorilla Position. DIY's run in the company started in 2016 and they have been NXT Tag Team Champions twice, as well as WWE Tag Team Champions during their run in the Stamford-based promotion. It remains to be seen if the group is indeed heading towards a potential split.
