AJ Styles must retain the WWE Championship at Fastlane
In the main event of WWE Fastlane, AJ Styles is set to defend his WWE World Championship in a Six-Pack challenge against Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, and John Cena. This is the second time that the Phenomenal One had to defend his title against multiple competitors this year; he defended the title against Owens and Zayn at the Royal Rumble in January.
When you have six immensely talented performers battling it out to win the most coveted prize of the company, the outcome can be very unpredictable. But should Styles beat the odds and come out victorious? Yes, here's why.
Firstly, Styles is an amazing competitor. He is without a doubt one of - if not the best - in WWE today. After winning the WWE Championship in November, he has brought back the prestige that the title carries, something which Jinder Mahal couldn't do. SmackDown Live is definitely the house that AJ Styles built; there is no one more deserving to carry the championship than Styles, as he has put on great matches week after week.
Styles is great on the mic and is a fan favorite. The WWE Championship should remain with someone who is the face of the company, and AJ Styles is a prime example of representing that title.
As far as WrestleMania plans for other competitors are considered: John Cena is rumored to face The Undertaker; Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have renewed their rivalry and are supposed to challenge each other; Dolph Ziggler may very well go for the United States Championship, the title which he never actually lost; and Baron Corbin can go on to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal again, making him the first superstar to win it twice. None of these plans involve AJ Styles, so there’s no reason for anyone else to win.
But possibly the most important reason that Styles must retain is because of his match at WrestleMania. At the Royal Rumble, Nakamura won the opportunity to challenge Styles for his WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
Styles and Nakamura have never faced each other in a singles match inside a WWE ring. The two did have an astounding match against each other in NJPW at the Wrestle Kingdom 11, which Nakamura won. However, a match between them at the show of shows is a completely different experience altogether. WWE would not like to waste the opportunity of having a dream match between two of the best performers of the company at the grandest stage of them all. The fans are looking forward to the main event match between Styles and Nakamura because they never disappoint. This will probably be the biggest money match of the event and WWE should not mess it up.
Styles deserves to be a champion for as long as possible. And while his current reign may come to an end, ultimately, it should only happen at the grandest stage of them all WrestleMania 34. Losing the title to anyone, except Nakamura, will hurt Styles as well as the WWE Universe.
