Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam - World title match set for Night of Champions

Word is finally out. Returning superstar Rob Van Dam is scheduled to face World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio for the title at the upcoming Night of Champions PPV. Both superstars are leading forces on SmackDown and it was inevitable that the duo had to cross paths someday or the other.

What actually fuelled this rivalry is the fact that Del Rio’s ‘former’ friend and ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez aligned himself with RVD after he was attacked by Del Rio recently on RAW. Besides this, RVD has picked up great momentum heading into this match with two back-to-back wins over champion Del Rio.

RVD’s WWE contractual obligations are unknown. However, if he is given a run as the champion, there would be nothing like it.
