Analyzing the singles journey of Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose so far

It’s like the newest Corporate heel Versus the newest Anti-hero.

Ever since the Shield took its first steps in the main roster, the discussions surrounding when and how they’ll split started making the rounds. This happened predominantly because the team consisted of two superstars who already had quite a reputation in the wrestling industry. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins were also the top stars of NXT. Roman Reigns inclusion was a surprise but it became clear over the weeks that given the Samoan’s build, he was the Chosen One. That led many to speculate what will happen to Rollins and Ambrose. Little did anybody expect Rollins to be a heel and Ambrose to be a face.

And to state the obvious, they’re doing a great job at it.

Rollins

The newest Corporate Heel

Ever since the inevitable betrayal took place in the most shocking way possible, this 28 year old has come out to look smug, selfish and cowardly- an entire light year away from what he portrayed himself as in the Shield. He was the one that glued the group back together when there were ego clashes between reigns and Ambrose. He took a complete U turn from that and he became Triple H’s newest recruit in the world of heels who wear suits and look just too corporate.

And when he gets into the ring, he never disappoints. That’s something he has been allowed to foolow up from his days as a hound of justice. Most believed that he’ll be a Jeff Hardy-esque baby face but he has certainly defied and exceeded expectations as the new corporate heel.

Ambrose

Steel Chairs have become a regular in Ambrose’s arsenal

What can I write about the man from Cincinnati, Ohio that already hasn’t been written about?

The newest thing I like about him is the fact he has been using steel chairs quite consistently to end his matches. His don’t care attitude about the outcome of the match has brought the primary rule of wrestling to the fore- It’s not about who wins but what happens during a match that counts. As reported, on Smackdown he again got himself disqualified by using a steel chair and that too in a handicap match against Rollins and as Ambrose says, ‘Uncle Kane’.

It has been 3 months since he has been on his own and he has turned out to be the most popular and engaging character not only from the Shield but in the entire main roster. His loose canon persona which sets him up as an unstable, fearless character has really connected with the audience. Roman Reigns may be in line to be the next John cena-esque face of the WWE but Ambrose is set to be the newest anti-hero, of course terms and conditions apply wherein the WWE continues giving him the opportunities.

Why it’s working

WWE made a good decision in having Rollins and Ambrose have a feud. I mean, it already has quite a storyline behind it. It is one of the best storytelling in a while. And given that both performers are equals (not like SuperCena versus Bray Wyatt), this feud is only going to show what they’re made of. They’ll both get the opportunity to shine in their respective roles.

They’re both young and were part of the most consistently awesome team. And now they have new gimmicks. They are relatively new in the roster and fans are yet to see what all they can do and they have not disappointed with everything that they’ve put forth so far. There is potential in their gimmicks and feud to come up with something new.

I, for one, can’t wait for their match to take place at SummerSlam.
