Austin Theory to set SmackDown star up for failure following recent developments? Scenario explored

WWE could be looking to separate another one of its SmackDown tag teams. Wrestling is all about the drama, meaning backstabbings and betrayals are part of what makes the product. And on the latest installment of the blue brand, the promotion set up the dominoes for a much-needed double-cross!

Former WWE Tag Team Champions A-Town Down Under have been on the rocks for quite some time now. Austin Theory has often found himself the one on the receiving end of a beatdown from their opponents, while Grayson Waller avoids the majority of any conflict. At certain points, it even appeared that Waller had purposely put Theory in harm's way.

After months of teasing, it seems that the former United States Champion is getting some payback and could be going solo soon. While the two ran into SmackDown GM Nick Aldis's office to complain about having to earn a title shot, Theory floated a hypothetical that caught the GM's attention.

"It's like you ask for a match and you just get it, you know. Like Grayson Waller vs. Kevin Owens."

Aldis thanked Theory for the idea and made it official. On SmackDown next week, Waller will face Kevin Owens in singles action.

Waller asked why Theory put him in that position, but Mr. All Day claimed that he was just "looking out for what's best" for his tag partner. Judging by his smile, though, Theory might have something else up his sleeve.

Why did Austin Theory put Grayson Waller in a match with Kevin Owens on SmackDown?

It seems that Austin Theory wants to set Grayson Waller up for failure. After all, Waller's been putting his tag partner in dangerous spots. But why did Theory pick Kevin Owens for next week of all people, and could that reveal Theory's true motive?

Earlier in the night, it was revealed that Kevin Owens would be Cody Rhodes' challenger at Bash in Berlin for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The Prize Fighter originally turned down the opportunity, claiming his win-loss record wasn't up to snuff for a title contender. Nick Aldis claimed in a segment that he was looking to give the shot to Roman Reigns, leading to Owens stating that anybody in the SmackDown locker room would be a better option.

Owens would be awarded the title opportunity in the end, which could have something to do with Austin Theory's plan. What happens next week if Grayson Waller defeats KO? Would the Aussie Sensation replace him at Bash in Berlin? It could be a nefarious plot, but Austin Theory might also be looking to bring the Undisputed WWE Championship to A-Town Down Under.
