Bo-lieving in Bo Dallas- The Next Best NXT Prospect?
Audience : Boring! Boring!
Bo Dallas : You’re right. It’s Bo’s Ring!
(Bo Dallas during his recent match on NXT against Colin Cassidy.)
It was not too long ago that Bo Dallas came close to defeating Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship. But it still seems like a long time considering Barrett is nowhere close to that momentum and he’s stuck with the Bad News Barrett gimmick which hasn’t yet allowed him to wrestle and on the other hand Bo Dallas went from that resident babyface phase to another phase which saw him become the longest reigning NXT Champion.
That phase is when Bo Dallas turned heel.
Over the years, WWE’s audience hasn’t quite responded the way WWE wants them too. They haven’t been ‘obedient’ to the WWE’s portrayals. Dallas was one of those portrayals. Fans found it really hard to cheer for him. Many just plain wanted to punch his face claiming that he has a very punch-able face. Hatred came naturally.
So over the years, WWE has still managed to bring the fans back under their control. You see, Bo Dallas did not turn into a heel who physically dominated his opponents, or just typically faded away from any challenge. They turned him into this disillusioned boy who was just sheer mental torture for he never acknowledges the negative reaction towards him from the audience.
So think about the hatred grown men have for Justin Bieber and now apply that analogy to Bo Dallas. He even calls his so called fans ‘BOlievers’ which seems like an indirect version of ‘Biliebers’.
When the audience ‘boos’ him he thinks that they’re ‘BO’-ing him. His heel character is of a goof of gargantuan proportions but you have to admit that pretty darn good.
He is a despicable heel and aren’t heels supposed to be booed out of the building. A good heel is someone who can make the audience buy tickets to come and boo him/her off. Triple H and Stephanie exhibited this during the Attitude Era. John Cena partly exhibits that as half of the audience despises him intensely. Vickie Guerrero on the other hand gets a fervent reaction but she’s not someone you think is always going to be present on shows otherwise people would have come to just plain boo her off.
In NXT, Bo is the king of boos. So much so that he gives all of his opponents a great platform to get a lot of cheers. He’s just made NXT an entertaining space to get some of the most amazing reactions.
While the audience once chanted ‘No More Bo’, they definitely don’t want that now. Hisheel gimmick is different and suits him too. He looks quite young to be a monster heel but the just the perfect fit to be what he is right now. He is intimidating and nerve wrecking with this present gimmick.
It’s just interesting that both he and his brother (the man we all call Bray Wyatt) are just great as negative characters. While Bray is fast becoming the future of the WWE and stamping his imrints wherever he goes, Bo Dallas might just do the same whenever he come along on the main roster. Many would say that it will be very simple to shoo off such a childish character. I say, that in the PG Era such childish characters can only thrive.
While the main roster has its share of deranged characters like Ambrose and Wyatt, a clumsy character in Emma and in the midst of this Bo Dallas seems to be a bit of a mixture of both.
Dallas will be able to get some unique reactions from the audience, not to forget a lot of boos- the perfect vision of a heel.
So, don’t stop ‘Bo-lieving’.
